AMARIS – Jurys Inn Brighton Waterfront

During October we will be focused on hospitality.  We will be bringing you details of UK and International projects which demonstrate design excellence in the hospitality sector and start our month with Jurys Inn Brighton Waterfront by-election studio designsquared.

Re-branded as a Jurys Inn, the hotel has undergone a substantial reconfiguration, where a reconciliation of levels has been designed to assist circulation, movement & accessibility.

An impressive, light sculpture provides a contemporary art installation that achieves a balance in terms of scale & proportion to the vast atrium; a challenging space, more akin to the film set of Moonraker or Star Wars as opposed to a hotel lobby/lounge. Conceived as a centre piece and a new focal point, the sculpture has been sensitively created, so not to distract from the existing composition of sea views & Brighton Beach.

Although, vast in area the interior is defined by a series of contrasting spaces offering flexibility and choice to both guests & visitors, as well as providing flexibility from an operational perspective throughout the course of the day. An island counter creates a new destination – café by day/bar by night encouraging guests to dwell or indulge in the hotel as part of a more integrated F&B experience. The variety & options in terms of seating helps to differentiate the experience, whether it be for business, pleasure or leisure. A concealed buffet enables the restaurant to function effectively and is discreetly tucked away once the hustle & bustle of breakfast has finished

Although significant in scale, the environment generates a warmth & tactile atmosphere, largely inspired by the pebbled beach and the hotel’s proximity to the sea. The careful selection of materials and finishes provides an appropriate element of contrast with draped curtains & dim-able lighting setting the mood for later in the day.

Furnishings, artwork & accessories localise your surroundings and create a sense of place in what is undoubtedly a prominent & popular location.

A selection of furniture for this project was supplied by BCFA member Morgan.
