Karen Pryce, is the Design Manager at Scottish furniture manufacturer Charlotte James Furniture and has taken the time to talk to us at Design Insider about her, “Creative Space”.
Karen manages all things design, from developing new ranges, producing bespoke drawings, to spacial/layout planning. She studied Architecture at Brighton University and took a job in Abu Dhabi before coming back to the UK. Her choice is a space that has inspired her and her team to create an exciting new range for Charlotte James.
Karen, Tell us about a space that has inspired you recently and how?
“This residential space designed by Malcolm Duffin is truly striking. Malcolm Duffin, who we have worked with frequently is renowned for his vivacious design style. The range of patterns, fabrics, colours and materials used have been well incorporated to create a visually stimulating space.”“The grey tones used on the walls and carpet accentuate and contrast with the boldness of the blue and orange fabrics; a personal favourite colour combination. The light wood finish of the furniture also compliments the tones on the walls and carpet.
My favourite feature in the space is the use of geometric wallpaper and decorative elements; the side table lights and the mirror give the space a contemporary yet 70’s edge as well as the combination of metal and wood in the furniture.”
“While developing new pieces for our Spring/Summer 2017 range, we have experienced a shift in demand for furniture involving metalwork. With the vast range of finishes we can apply to metal products and the level of sophistication they bring to the overall look, we are positive this material will become more and more popular over the next few years.”
Design Insider will be covering the new range from Charlotte James in the next couple of weeks, so keep an eye out for that here.
