Abbey Glass: Crafting Elegance for San Carlo Cicchetti

Nestled in the heart of London, San Carlo Cicchetti is a testament to the blend of authentic Italian dining and sophisticated design. Known for its award-winning cuisine and luxurious interiors, the restaurant group has become synonymous with glamour and heritage.

Abbey Glass is a leading specialist in bespoke glass solutions, proudly serving the UK for over 30 years. Based in South Wales, we combine craftsmanship, innovation and cutting-edge technology to deliver exceptional glass products tailored to our clients’ unique needs.

For their latest project, the San Carlo Cicchetti space required a meticulous touch to bring their vision to life. Abbey Glass, the renowned glass manufacturer based in Wales, whose expertise in bespoke glass and mirror design and installation was pivotal in transforming the space into a visual masterpiece.

A Collaboration of Craftsmanship and Precision

The project, commissioned by Tekne, a leading shopfitting company, called for the supply and installation of a variety of mirror designs. Abbey Glass was tasked with delivering antique mirrors, grey mirrors, wine displays, back-bar features, and bespoke restaurant pieces.

The scope of work was intricate and ambitious, requiring not only technical expertise but also a deep understanding of the design intent, the project completed in May 2025. Working within an existing space presented unique challenges. With no room for error, every piece had to fit perfectly within the tailored frameworks and joinery crafted by Tekne.

This demanded a collaborative approach, with Abbey Glass working closely alongside the shopfitting team to ensure that the mirrors complemented the sophisticated interiors while adhering to the precise specifications outlined in the design drawings.

Reflecting on the project, Angela Worgan, Managing Director of Abbey Glass, shared:

“This project was a true testament to the importance of collaboration and precision.

Working within an existing space meant there was no margin for error. Still, our team thrives on challenges like these.

By working closely with Tekne and understanding the design intent, we delivered bespoke pieces that not only met but exceeded expectations.

It’s incredibly rewarding to see our craftsmanship play a part in creating such a stunning space.”

Challenges and Triumphs

One of the most significant challenges Abbey Glass faced was the precision required to integrate its bespoke mirrors into the existing architectural framework. The restaurant’s interiors, characterised by light colours, expansive pale Italian marble, and a refined aesthetic, left no margin for misalignment.

Each mirror had to be meticulously measured, cut and installed to ensure a flawless fit. Additionally, the antique and grey mirrors posed their own set of challenges. These pieces required a delicate balance between achieving the desired aged aesthetic and maintaining structural integrity.

Abbey Glass’s skilled team rose to the occasion, employing their extensive experience and innovative techniques to deliver mirrors that were both visually stunning and functionally robust. The wine displays and the back bar features added another layer of complexity.

These elements needed to serve not only as practical storage solutions but also as design focal points that enhanced the overall ambience of the space. Abbey Glass’s ability to merge form and function was instrumental in achieving this balance, resulting in installations that were both practical and beautiful.

A Legacy of Excellence

The San Carlo Cicchetti project is just one example of Abbey Glass’s ability to deliver exceptional results in high-profile settings. Over the years, the company has built a reputation for excellence, having worked on prestigious projects such as Bocconcino, Ave Mario, Sexy Fish, The Ivy, and Ivy Asia.

Each of these collaborations has showcased Abbey Glass’s versatility and commitment to quality, cementing their status as a trusted partner in the world of commercial interiors.

Whether it’s creating intricate mirror designs for a luxury restaurant or delivering large-scale installations for a commercial space, the company consistently exceeds expectations.

The San Carlo Experience

San Carlo Cicchetti is more than just a restaurant; it’s an experience. From the moment diners step inside, they are transported to a world of Italian elegance and hospitality. The interiors, designed to reflect the brand’s Sicilian roots, are a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity.

Light colours and marble surfaces create a sense of openness and sophistication, while the carefully curated design elements add warmth and character. The restaurant’s story is deeply rooted in family and heritage.

Founded by Carlo Distefano in 1992, San Carlo has grown from a single location in Birmingham to a family-run group of award-winning Italian restaurants across the UK and beyond. Today, the brand is led by Carlo’s son, Marcello, who upholds the values of authenticity, family and a love of great food.

This commitment to excellence is evident in every aspect of the San Carlo Cicchetti experience, from the menu to the interiors. Abbey Glass’s contribution to the project has been crucial in bringing this vision to life, ensuring the space reflects the brand’s ethos of quality and sophistication.
