Bringing a Lakeland Icon Back to Life: The King’s Arms, Hawkshead
Nestled in the heart of the Lake District’s historic village of Hawkshead, The King’s Arms has re-emerged as a beautifully reimagined traditional free-house… one that honours its storied past, while embracing contemporary hospitality and craft-led design.
The 17th Century coaching inn, long cherished by locals and visitors alike, underwent an extensive and sensitive renovation, reopening in Summer 2025 to much acclaim. The restoration was a true labour of love, led by locally based tradespeople who preserved the building’s original oak beams, stone fireplaces and slate floors while introducing thoughtful upgrades that enhance comfort and visual warmth across the pub’s spaces.
At the core of this transformation was the collaboration with Taylor’s Classics, who were commissioned to design, manufacture and install bespoke furniture and fittings that elevate the pub’s interiors and exterior seating.

A Bespoke Bar Experience
The focal point of the pub’s interior is the bespoke bar, carefully designed to feel inviting while remaining firmly grounded in the building’s historic character. Its proportions and details echo the traditions of classic inns, while its craftsmanship reflects modern standards of precision and quality.
Curated Seating and Furnishings
To complement the traditional bar and contribute to a cohesive visual narrative throughout the space, Taylor’s Classics supplied a curated mix of:
- Antique & Reclaimed dining chairs and tables, that lend authenticity and patina.
- New Traditional classics – Including Scottish high stools, Sheldon low stools and Bromley dining tables, that balance comfort with elegant form.
- Outdoor Alice stacking armchairs paired with durable Nouveau cast iron bases, extending the hospitality experience into Hawkshead’s village life and fresh Lake District air.
This thoughtful mix of furniture pieces supports a range of customer experiences, from intimate conversations by the fire to relaxed village stroll-in moments over a pint and seasonal bite.
