International Women’s Day is on 8 March, and this year’s theme, Give to Gain, feels especially relevant to commercial interior design.

Because progress happens when time, access, responsibility and visibility are shared, and when we invest in progression frameworks that build confidence, technical fluency and commercial authority over time.

In our latest piece, Design Insider spoke with four designers whose perspectives are shaped by practice and personal experience: Tatiana Sheveleva (CHAPI Design), Kate Mooney (OCCA), Ana Moisin (Anamo Design Studio) and Rachel Trippier (f.r.a.). Together, they explore what giving looks like in real terms, from mentorship and flexible working, to creating clearer routes into leadership.

“Giving in our industry should be practical. It’s about giving time, access and real responsibility… A seat at the table. Exposure to clients. Ownership of a budget.” Kate Mooney, Founder and Principal at OCCA

“A stack of newspapers is like a brick. Together, they build the walls of our collective memory.” Beatriz González

Building Collective Memory at the Barbican Centre Art Gallery is a joyful, paper-led tribute to the extraordinary life and work of Beatriz González.

Designed by Unknown Works, the UK’s first major retrospective of the Colombian artist transforms the gallery with undulating paper landscapes, carved monolithic benches and suspended sheets that echo the materiality of print. It is bold, tactile and deeply human, reflecting González’s fearless exploration of politics, culture and collective memory.

150 works span six decades, many shown in the UK for the first time, within a sustainable exhibition design that pushes paper to its limits.
