With its brands AXOR and hansgrohe, the Hansgrohe Group, based in Schiltach/Southern Germany, enjoys a reputation as a leader in innovation, design and quality within the bath and kitchen industry. Founded in 1901 in the Black Forest, the company gives water form and function with its faucets, showerheads and shower systems.

Design competitions like these provide an exciting opportunity for Showroom Designers to share the vision and creativity that go into creating stunning schemes that both delight and inspire. However, with standards predicted to be high, setting out a compelling and informed entry is key to steering steer submissions to success.

Hansgrohe & AXOR’s recently launched Bathroom Designer of the Year competition helps celebrate the creation of memorable bathrooms that combine aesthetics with function and deliver desirable spaces for an unrivalled bathroom experience.

Creative design talent powers the sector, providing bathroom space solutions that drive business opportunity for showrooms and generate holistic and enhancing answers that bring attractive spaces and innovating products together. But, whilst the design vision will be central to the success of any entry, it is also important to think about the whole application; how it is constructed, what you are trying to convey and how you communicate the creative thought process.

To help those aspiring to be Hansgrohe and AXOR’s Bathroom Designer of the Year 2025, the following tips can help shape a compelling, detailed, and winning entry.

Follow the Rules

Like any competition there will be rules and regulations to follow, and some entrants can fail early in the process by not taking the time to fully read all the entry instructions as they tender their proposals.

The rules are in place to provide a level playing field for all entries and help the judging panel fairly assess the merits of each design presented to them.

Taking care to adhere to all the competition requests will be a great start.

Words Are Your Friend

Whilst the competition is not a writing exercise – the judges are far more interested in your design brilliance – it remains important to take care with the words used to bring concepts, design vision and execution to life.

Imagine yourself as a storyteller – unpicking the design decisions you have made as the concept has evolved.  Judges want to know what has inspired you, what impacted the design choices made, and how your personal reflections and ambition has added extra colour to the application – making your design stand out from the crowd.

Information is Key

Answering specific requests for information is also essential.  Do not be tempted to ignore the inclusion of some details that will help the judges form a considered view and stick to the point.

As the competition is judged by fellow design professionals, it is important to think as they do.  They want to understand the intellectual process behind your creation so always include items such as plans and illustrations to complement the written narrative. When up against other talented designers, details matter and outlining how certain challenges have been tackled or why a particular component was specified, is another way to make your mark.

Visual Impact

The pivotal importance of sharing well-constructed and highly illuminating final designs as part of the entry should not be underestimated. Judges want to see the final look in detail to supplement the design and component information already included.

The Bigger Picture

If appropriate, it is also helpful to take the time to include personal thoughts about specific subjects and issues related to the task in hand.  For example, in the bathroom space hearing how the design has tackled important topics such as sustainability and energy efficiency, without compromise to the user experience, can add further depth to a well-conceived and holistic creative response.

In the end there has to be a single winner, and the professional designer judging panel must digest a large amount of information to make a final informed and subjective decision.

But by combining the design vision with a captivating and accurate supporting narrative, your entry to Hansgrohe and AXOR’s Bathroom Designer of the Year 2025 will have an excellent chance of success.
