Luxury British bedmaker Harrison Spinks has built a reputation for combining generations of craftsmanship with pioneering sustainable innovation. From growing natural mattress fillings on its Yorkshire farm to designing recyclable spring systems and weaving fabrics in-house, the company’s vertically integrated approach sets it apart within the industry. Following a milestone year of award recognition in 2025, we spoke with National Sales Manager Laurence Borrows about the significance of these accolades and how they reflect the values driving the business forward.

To begin, could you introduce yourself and your role within Harrison Spinks, and share a brief overview of the business and what it stands for today?
I’m Laurence Borrows, the National Sales Manager for luxury British bedmaker Harrison Spinks. As one of the UK’s most vertically integrated bedmakers, sustainable innovation is embedded in everything we do – from cultivating natural fillings like hemp and flax on our 300-acre farm in Yorkshire, to weaving our own fabrics in-house and designing glue-free, recyclable springs in our components division.
By combining traditional craftmanship with modern techniques, we are proud to create comfortable beds in the most responsible way for our customers and hospitality partners alike – offering a luxurious, sustainable sleep experience night after night.

Harrison Spinks has received significant award recognition during 2025; which awards feel most meaningful to the business, and why do they resonate so strongly with your team?
2025 was a milestone year for us, marked by winning the prestigious NBF Bed Manufacturer of the Year award for the second consecutive year – and fifth time overall – an honour that recognises the dedication of our whole team and the respect we’ve earned from our peers across the bedmaking industry.
Adding to this, we received our debut hospitality awards: the Boutique Hotelier Sustainable Supplier of the Year award, and Decorex’s Sustainable Innovation award, which celebrate our pioneering approach to sustainable mattress production and the expertise which set us apart in the hospitality sector.
Combined with our three current King’s Awards – part of a total of eight Queen’s and King’s Awards for Enterprise that we have achieved – these accolades highlight the expert craftsmanship and continuous innovation that drives us forward as leaders in luxury bedmaking.

As a manufacturer known for combining traditional craftsmanship with advanced spring technology, how does external award recognition validate the way Harrison Spinks approaches innovation and product development?
At Harrison Spinks, doing things differently is at the core of our ethos – artisan bedmakers combine meticulous attention to detail with specialist techniques honed over generations, while our in-house spring division develops award-winning innovations that push the industry forward, creating mattresses that set new standards in comfort, quality, and sustainability – and recognition from prestigious awards only reinforces the values that have guided our business throughout our rich 185-year history.
Beyond the awards, these achievements give us confidence to continue innovating responsibly, advancing sustainably, and handcrafting premium mattresses that set us apart in the industry.

Sustainability and vertical integration, from your in-house spring manufacturing to your Yorkshire farm, are central to the Harrison Spinks story; how important is it that awards bodies are recognising these long-term commitments rather than short-term trends?
Our long-term commitment to sustainable innovation is at the core of who we are, shaping the way we handcraft mattresses responsibly while continually raising the bar for environmentally conscious bedmaking. With demand for sustainable products growing across our customer base, recognition from awards like these reassures us that our approach is the right one – and often ahead of the curve.
Building on this commitment, our homegrown story provides a unique point of difference for hospitality clients, from being the only UK bedmaker to grow our own fillings to weaving our own naturally fire-retardant mattress fabrics in-house – enabling hotels to integrate our rich heritage and sustainable approach to manufacturing into the luxury sleep experience they offer their guests.

From your perspective, what does this level of industry recognition mean for your customers, particularly within the hospitality sector, when they are specifying beds?
It’s promising to see how sustainability is becoming increasingly important to our hospitality clients, and we’re in a strong position to meet that demand.
As one of the UK’s most vertically integrated bedmakers – producing 95%* of our own mattress components and drawing our own wire for our patented spring systems – we have the freedom and flexibility to uphold the highest standards across every stage of production.
Recognition from respected industry bodies like the NBF, Decorex, and Boutique Hotelier further validates the expertise woven into every mattress, giving our clients confidence that they’re offering guests a truly responsible luxury sleep experience.

As a proudly British manufacturer operating at a global level, how do these awards support Harrison Spinks’ ability to champion UK manufacturing, skills, and provenance both at home and internationally?
As a fifth-generation, proudly British bedmaker, renowned for creating high-quality, comfortable beds in a responsible way, industry recognition of this calibre strengthens our team’s unwavering dedication to sustainability that underpins each mattress we handcraft.
Similarly, accolades such as the NBF’s Bed Manufacturer of the Year, as well as coveted list of King’s Awards, carry immense weight both in the UK and internationally, helping us open new doors, continue to develop, and gain new customers around the world. They also support growth in new markets, such as our recent expansion into Indonesia, where we’ve partnered with leading retailer Duta Abadi Primantara to bring our British Luxury Collection to a number of premium stores, reinforcing the global recognition of British craftsmanship and the values these awards celebrate.

Do these 2025 awards open new opportunities for the business, whether that is in terms of product innovation, partnerships, or conversations with designers, hoteliers, and specifiers?
We’re proud to supply our luxury mattresses to a range of high-end boutique hotels up and down the country, including six that were recently voted among the UK’s Top 50 Boutique Hotels – and as the demand for sustainable suppliers increases – industry recognition of this nature signals to designers and specifiers that sustainability is at the core of who we are.
Together, this recognition reinforces confidence in our approach, allowing partners to specify Harrison Spinks with the assurance that they are offering guests an exceptional night’s sleep rooted in responsible craftsmanship.
Looking ahead to 2026, are there specific awards, certifications, or areas of recognition that Harrison Spinks has ambitions to achieve as part of its ongoing journey?
As we move into 2026, our focus is on extending our sustainability credentials across the business, so we remain sector leaders. Our North-Yorkshire farm is on the verge of Soil Association Organic Certification, recognising three years of natural management with no synthetic pesticides – a milestone that reflects our commitment to growing luxury mattress fillings organically and responsibly.
Alongside this, we are progressing with ISO 14001 certification at our Leeds manufacturing site, providing a framework to monitor and reduce environmental impact, from energy use to waste. We are also setting science-based emissions targets as part of our ongoing commitment to achieving net zero.

Finally, how does Harrison Spinks plan to build on this award-winning momentum to further evolve its products, sustainability leadership, and brand positioning over the next few years?
Looking ahead, we’re excited to build on the momentum from our recent awards, which showcase the sustainable innovation and expert craftsmanship at the heart of everything we do. Recognition of this calibre reflects the high standards, expertise and responsible practises that underpin every mattress we handcraft, and we’ll continue to highlight these achievements through industry events, marketing and social media.
Beyond the awards, our focus remains on continuous innovation, adapting and advancing sustainability across our operations to strengthen our position as one of the UK’s most responsible bedmakers and continue to deliver exceptional sleep experiences for the luxury hospitality market and beyond.
