Outwood House: A Luxury Yorkshire Retreat with Beds by Harrison Spinks

Outwood House, a luxury B&B bringing countryside tranquillity to the edge of the city, has opened in the Leeds suburb of Horsforth, with every bed handcrafted by local luxury bedmaker Harrison Spinks.

Dating back to 1754, the elegantly restored Georgian property has been transformed by co-owners Elspeth and Richard Taylor into a luxurious four-bedroom retreat. Just five miles from Leeds city centre, Outwood House offers guests a country house escape with the vibrant city nearby.

Guests can enjoy woodland walks or scenic paths along the River Aire and Leeds-Liverpool canal. Food lovers can indulge in acclaimed restaurants including the Michelin-recommended Bavette Bistro, and The Forde, led by MasterChef: The Professionals finalist Matt Healy.

Garden-grown produce is served at breakfast, with recent menus featuring freshly picked raspberries and homemade gooseberry compote. Guests will find locally sourced touches throughout their stay, such as Yorkshire Pecorino from Otley and Harrogate & Co sausages to Betty’s biscuits in each room.

Elspeth Taylor, Co-owner of Outwood House said:

“Outwood House is a celebration of Yorkshire. We think it’s important to buy as locally as possible. From wool and flax to world-class food – we’ve been proud to source from the incredible talent and natural products on our doorstep.”

The property retains many historical features, including the original 1754 date stone.

Elspeth continued:

“This building has so much history – from the days of the ‘Factory King’ Richard Oastler who lived here in 1816, to my own memories of growing up in the house. We were inspired to open our family home to guests after hosting hundreds of friends and student groups who loved its peaceful charm. It’s been a labour of love.”

Comfort and calm were central to the hotel’s design. Each bedroom features a luxurious Harrison Spinks 15,750 Signature mattress, topped with a Signature 5,000 Enhancer for added softness, along with deep, upholstered headboards in a selection of the bedmaker’s fabrics. The Super King zip-and-link mattresses offer flexibility for guests who prefer twin beds. Those inspired by the comfort of their stay can even order the same mattress for their own home via an in-room QR code.

Richard Taylor, Co-owner of Outwood House added:

“Enjoying a truly restful night’s sleep is really important to our guests. We chose Harrison Spinks not just for the exceptional comfort and quality, but because they source materials locally from Yorkshire and manufacture their beds in Leeds.”

Founded in 1840, Harrison Spinks is a fifth-generation bedmaker based just a few miles away in Leeds, renowned for its luxury mattresses made with locally grown natural materials – including British wool and flax from its own Yorkshire farm.

The connection to the region continues throughout Outwood House – from Abraham Moon woollen fabrics woven just five miles away in Guiseley to locally made furniture, signage, and creative partnerships all sourced from Yorkshire.

With plans for future artist retreats, wine tastings and garden weekends, Outwood House is establishing itself as a destination for those seeking the best of both worlds – country peace with city convenience – and the comfort of a truly great bed.
