Stannah Launches Design-led Stairlift for Homes and Care Environments

Stannah, one of Britain’s leading engineering firms and a world leader in lifting products, has launched a new design-first stairlift that brings together accessibility, comfort and considered design. The Stannah 158 is suitable for both private homes and care settings, including assisted living and retirement developments, offering a thoughtful balance of performance, practicality and style.

In care environments, equipment must not only meet the highest standards of safety and reliability but also contribute to spaces that feel welcoming and uplifting. The Stannah 158 achieves this through its elegant design, intuitive operation and reassuring sense of comfort, helping residents maintain independence with confidence.

 MD Patrick Stannah says:

“Accessibility and style aren’t mutually exclusive.”

With sustainable tan leather, matte black detailing and a sleek twin rail, the Stannah 158 reimagines the look and feel of a stairlift. Its standout features include a seat, arms and footrest that fold neatly at the touch of a button, and a magnetic seatbelt designed for ease of use. Compact and contemporary, it’s made to fit effortlessly into any environment.

The 158 uses responsibly sourced materials, including soft faux leather made from wood by-products that would otherwise go to waste, and upholstery woven from 75% post-consumer wool. Together they create a warm, tactile and durable finish.

Operation is simple and smooth. A gentle ‘touch and hold’ control moves the stairlift up or down, while the seat automatically swivels to help users disembark safely. During installation, advanced mapping technology allows Stannah’s engineers to tailor the ride precisely to each staircase. Light and sound cues provide extra reassurance during use.

Managing Director Patrick Stannah, a fifth-generation member of the family business, explained:

“We wanted to create a stairlift that feels like a proactive choice rather than a last resort. The Stannah 158 brings together comfort, safety and design in a way that reflects how people really live today. It was important for us to show that accessibility and style can absolutely go hand in hand.”

Built on more than 150 years of British engineering expertise, the Stannah 158 embodies the company’s belief that good design should make life easier without compromise. With its compact form and carefully considered details, it’s as at home in a family residence as it is in a care environment, offering comfort and confidence in equal measure.
