Where Furniture Sets the Mood: Nutbutter Dundrum

Working closely with the Nutbutter team, Inside Out Contracts delivered a furniture scheme that helps define the restaurant’s warm, natural identity, using materiality, tone, and comfort to shape how the space feels from the moment guests arrive.

What are you in the mood for today? It’s a question we hear all the time, but in restaurant design, it goes far beyond food. Mood is often the first thing guests experience, shaped instantly by furniture, materials, and atmosphere the moment they step through the door.

Nutbutter Dundrum in Ireland is a great example of restaurant design brought to life through furniture choice. Set along the river in Dundrum Town Centre, the space has been designed as a warm, natural hospitality interior that feels relaxed, welcoming, and easy to enjoy throughout the day. Natural materials, carefully considered furniture, and a strong sense of flow work together to create an environment where the mood feels right from the very first moment you enter.

Warm tones, natural materials, and sustainable furniture choices create an inviting first impression at Nutbutter Dundrum.

How furniture sets the tone

At Nutbutter Dundrum, furniture plays a leading role in shaping both how the space feels and how it works. Seating has been selected not only for comfort, but for the atmosphere it creates. Wood-framed dining chairs upholstered in a recycled rich Fireglow velvet bring a sense of ease and approachability, with natural reclaimed wood table tops interior adding tonal contrast which connects to a wider palette of earthy tones. Shades of terracotta, burnt orange and soft clay are layered through upholstery and finishes, giving the space a sun-warmed quality that works from morning through to evening.

Natural materials that support the brand story

Nutbutter’s plant-based ethos is echoed through its material choices. Inside, reclaimed wood table tops bring texture, warmth, and character to the dining areas, reinforcing the restaurant’s focus on sustainability and natural living. Each surface adds subtle visual interest while remaining calm and understated, supporting the overall sense of balance in the space.

A carefully chosen mix of furniture creates Nutbutter’s relaxed, natural aesthetic.

Paired with slim steel table bases, the furniture feels light and flexible, making it easy for the restaurant to adapt to different group sizes and service styles throughout the day. This balance of warmth and practicality helps the space feel both welcoming and effortlessly functional.

Flowing from inside to out

The furniture strategy continues beyond the interior. On the riverside terrace, slatted Iroko table tops introduce a durable, outdoor-friendly material that still feels closely connected to the indoor palette. The warm timber tones echo the interior finishes, creating a smooth transition from indoor dining to outdoor seating – and reinforcing a consistent mood across the entire venue.

A mood people want to return to

By using furniture as a key design tool, Nutbutter Dundrum creates a mood that feels calm, natural, and inviting – without ever feeling overdesigned. Every chair, table, and material choice contributes to an atmosphere that supports comfort, conversation, and repeat visits.

Inside Out Contracts were delighted to work closely with the Nutbutter team to help bring this furniture-led hospitality space to life, creating a restaurant where furniture doesn’t just fill the room, but actively shapes the mood from the moment guests arrive.
