We had the privilege of attending an unforgettable evening hosted by &Tradition at the Royal Festival Hall, celebrating the relaunch of Robin Day’s iconic furniture pieces. Set against the stunning backdrop of the London Eye and Big Ben, the event showcased Robin Day’s designs launched by &Tradition, continuing the iconic designer’s legacy for a new generation and an international audience.

Key takeaways from the discussion:

1️⃣ Paula Day reflected on her father’s career, from his ground-breaking work with Hille to his success at the Festival of Britain. Robin’s designs, which expressed hope and optimism, are as relevant today as they were then, aligning perfectly with &Tradition’s ethos.

As the first official event district of London Design Festival, Brompton Design District continues to push boundaries in design exploration. This year’s theme, The Practice of Learning, curated by Jane Withers Studio, invited designers and collectives to explore learning, experimentation, and creative development through design. The district expertly wove this theme into every corner, creating an environment rich with discovery.

Standout exhibitions included POoR Collective’s POWERSHIIFT 2024, Reading Design by Grymsdyke Farm, and The Making Room, where designers like Andu Masebo and Mikey Krzyzanowski hosted dynamic workshops focused on collaboration and hands-on learning.

Other highlights were Oskar Zięta’s Through Process to Progress at Loop Generation, with air-sculpted metal creations offering a glimpse into a continuous design journey, and Curious Habits – Design as Learning from Royal College of Art students. A particular standout was Anees Mehkri`s Air Loom, a low-tech air filtration system using natural fibres.
