Herman Miller Launches First Performance Suspension Chair for ESD Workspaces with Aeron ESD

Herman Miller adds the Aeron ESD Chair and Stool to the award-winning Aeron Chair family—the first performance suspension chair designed specifically for electrostatic discharge (ESD) environments. Originally designed by Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick, the Aeron Chair revolutionized office seating when it debuted in 1994. Since then, it has continued to evolve through material and design updates. In partnership with designers, the brand has made pioneering updates to improve the chair’s comfort and performance. Since 2021, the entire Aeron Chair lineup has also incorporated ocean-bound plastic.

 

With the Aeron ESD Chair and Stool, Herman Miller addresses the need for comfort and support in ESD-sensitive environments commonly found within the tech, semiconductor, and innovation sectors—such as clean rooms, data centres, laboratories, and electronics assembly areas. ESD workplaces have special requirements when it comes to furnishings—especially seating, which can be a major source of electrostatic discharges.

Aeron’s research-driven technology supports the unique needs of individuals, while adhering to global ESD standards. The brand’s 8Z Pellicle suspension distributes weight evenly and provides thermal comfort. Adjustable PostureFit SL supports the spine at the base. Harmonic 2 Tilt offers a smooth, balanced recline. While many brands take a “one size fits all” approach to ESD-approved chairs, Herman Miller offers a choice of two chair sizes and two-cylinder heights, providing a more exacting fit across backrest height, seat width, tilt mechanism, and base size.

Unlike traditional ESD seating made from foam, fabric, or leather, Aeron ESD is the first of its kind to feature a performance suspension system. It’s also composed of over 65% recycled materials, including ocean-bound plastic, helping organizations meet their sustainability goals.
