SpaceInvader becomes a Certified B Corporation
Manchester-based design consultancy SpaceInvader has become the latest UK business to achieve the rigorous global standard of B Corp Certification, awarded by B Lab.

It is now the first independently owned interior design practice in Manchester and the North West to be certified in this way, reflecting SpaceInvader’s commitment to delivering design projects with measurable positive impact on people, organisations, and the planet.
Individual projects by SpaceInvader have already been winners across both the sustainability and positive impact categories of leading awards in recent years, reflecting the leading interiors agency’s efforts to re-think what ambitious, committed and socially-responsible design can achieve. The Renold Building in Manchester won the MIX North Positive Impact Award, for example, whilst Stopford House for Stockport Council won the Sustainable Design Collective best Fit-Out Award. Salford’s Eden New Bailey was a BCO North winner for ESG and also a MIX Awards North winner for Positive Impact.

Verified by B Lab, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement, this achievement demonstrates that SpaceInvader meets high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability, alongside a commitment to goals beyond shareholder value.
The B Corp concept envisions a global economy using business as a force for good, with certification meaning that the entirety of a business’ operations and impact areas related to practices around governance, workers, community, the environment and customers has been closely examined, with companies required to provide evidence on performance while legally embedding their commitment to purpose as well as profit in their company articles.
The B Corp community in the UK is now the largest and fastest-growing in the world, with membership including over 3,500 companies, spanning a range of different industries and sizes. Names include The Guardian, Innocent Drinks, Patagonia, Tony’s Chocolonely, The Big Issue, Finisterre, Elemis, and Sipsmith Gin. The median score for a first-time company assessment is 50.9 points. SpaceInvader, on this, its first B Impact Assessment, scored 93.1, which is 13.1 points above the pass point of 80.

Chris Turner, CEO of B Lab UK, says:
“We are delighted to welcome SpaceInvader to the B Corp community. This is a movement of companies that are committed to changing how business operates and believe business really can be a force for good. We know that SpaceInvader is going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward.”
John Williams, Director/Founder of SpaceInvader, commented:
“Becoming a certified B Corp organisation is a fantastic way to kick off 2026 for us and the fulfilment of a long-held ambition for me personally. It’s testament to all the hard work the SpaceInvader team has been doing for a number of years now to get to this position, with the broadest possible focus on integrating ‘design for good’ into company practice.
This isn’t just about sustainable specification, but about location-specific solutions, minimising carbon emissions, integrating with local businesses and a much lighter touch on the planet in everything we do.”
The certification news came one day before SpaceInvader moved offices in Manchester from Oxford Road to a new space in the Northern Quarter, as the company continues to expand its business remit from its workplace design origins to encompass the hospitality and sports / stadia markets.
SpaceInvader was formed in Manchester in 2009 and is now one of the UK’s premier design agencies, with over 60 creative awards and nominations for its work across the commercial, hospitality, stadia, residential, commercial and community sectors to date.
