An iconic Birmingham landmark

In 1875, Isaac Horton and architect Thomson Plevins began constructing a 100-bedroom hotel at the Colmore Row and Church Street intersection. The Grand Hotel Birmingham opened four years later on February 1, 1879, with subsequent extensions, including the Louis XIV-style ballroom, added over the next 15 years.

Throughout the 20th century, The Grand Hotel stood as an iconic Birmingham landmark, synonymous with luxury and civic pride. The hotel temporarily closed in 2002 but made a triumphant return in Summer 2021 following a £45 million restoration and refurbishment of its Grade 2* listed building. Now, The Grand Hotel is a Birmingham institution that beautifully combines 19th-century splendour with a contemporary 21st-century perspective.
