Art Deco turns 100 this year, but Orac’s latest collection proves the movement still feels remarkably current.

Created in collaboration with interior architect Aurélie Penneman, the new Art Deco Collection doesn’t treat the style as nostalgia or decoration. Instead, it explores Art Deco as a design language built around rhythm, proportion, symmetry and spatial flow.

From softened cornices and sculptural wall panels to stepped profiles, arches and vertical framing, the collection reinterprets some of the movement’s most recognisable architectural gestures for contemporary interiors.

What’s particularly interesting is how the collection shifts mouldings and wall elements away from ornament alone and positions them as tools for shaping atmosphere, movement and identity within a space.

At a moment when interiors are once again embracing materiality, architectural detail and emotional depth, the timing feels especially relevant.

What would you redesign, and what would you leave exactly as it is?

Re-Design vs Design Perfection is our playful Design Insider series inviting leading creatives to share one object they would happily rethink and another they believe gets design exactly right.

This time, Shreena Patel, Senior Interior Designer at SpaceInvader, turns her attention to the everyday umbrella and explains why it still falls short when design meets real-world practicality. On the other side of the debate? The Bergen Pro Backpack by Kapten & Son, a product she considers thoughtfully resolved in both function and form.

Swipe through to discover her choices and read the full feature via the link in bio.

A significant new chapter is beginning for The Wiener Holocaust Library in London.

A proposal by Nissen Richards Studio to refurbish and extend the world’s oldest archive dedicated to the Holocaust and Nazi era has now been granted planning permission by Camden Council.

The scheme will introduce a new permanent gallery, learning space, courtyard and rooftop garden, carefully designed to support reflection, research and public engagement, while honouring the extraordinary history and purpose of the Library itself.

“There is a complexity to this exhibition,” explains Pippa Nissen. “The evidence is materially fragile, but what it communicates is permanent.”

More than a building project, the scheme represents an important investment in education, remembrance and the preservation of historical evidence for future generations.
