Louis Vuitton Le Café : A Spatial Journey Between Brand and Culture in Beijing

Louis Vuitton Le Café in Sanlitun, Beijing, designed by Astet Studio, explores travel as a mental and emotional condition rather than a purely physical act. Addressing a new generation of consumers shaped by digital culture, yet still deeply reliant on physical environments to truly experience a brand, the project transforms the café into an experiential extension of the Maison’s universe.

Conceived as a sequence of spaces to be inhabited, the interior unfolds gradually through controlled contrasts, shifts in scale and carefully balanced proportions. This spatial rhythm encourages moments of pause, encounter and reflection, allowing the experience to be remembered over time rather than consumed all at once.

Louis Vuitton’s symbolic language is embedded through abstraction rather than literal representation. The ceiling emerges as a central architectural gesture, where a contemporary rhomboid form recalls the Maison’s emblem while simultaneously evoking the curved roofs of traditional Chinese temples. This dual reference introduces a new interior horizon, anchoring the space between brand identity and cultural context.

Custom-designed furniture plays a key role in translating this dialogue into use and experience. Curved seating compositions, volumetric elements and textile surfaces reinterpret Chinese symbolism, calligraphic gestures and ideas of movement within a contemporary aesthetic. Cultural references and brand codes merge subtly through materiality, colour and form, creating a cohesive and understated spatial language.

The result is a space where architecture, furniture and atmosphere operate as a single narrative system. Louis Vuitton Le Café becomes a place designed to remain in memory, capturing travel as a sensory experience defined not by arrival, but by how space is inhabited, perceived and remembered.

Astet Studio is a Barcelona-based architecture and interior design practice founded in 2018 by Ala Zreigat and Oscar Engroba. Specialising in hospitality and restaurant projects, the studio works at the intersection of architecture, interior design and brand identity, creating spaces where atmosphere, narrative and experience are carefully woven together.
