Youthscape was created in 1993 with the goal to help young people fi nd hope and lasting change, and where youth workers, teachers and others from across the UK can also become inspired and trained to provide the same in their own communities. It is seen across the UK as a flagship space for young people.

International design practise HOK were approached by the Chief Executive, Chris Curtis, with a brief to create a less formal space enabling young people to feel relaxed, thus facilitating the counselling and outreach work that Youthscape provide. The resulting concept respects the integrity and features of this historic building whilst complementary furnishings create an urban industrial environment which comes alive with the carefully considered use of bold graphic images.

“Having worked on corporate, government and healthcare projects with Modulex we knew that we could rely both on their creative skill and proactive approach to help develop the graphics for the scheme. The rich variety of design solutions within the building is impressive ranging from painted and distressed brickwork to supersized photography and cartoon manifestation. The interior is enriched by the bold and gritty approach that was taken, wholly appropriate in a building designed for young people ” Andy Warner Lacey, Sector Leader, Interior Design, HOK London

Also provided by Modulex the illuminated roof top “Youthscape” sign, at approx. 12-15 m wide it required special steelwork to support it upon the Victorian brickwork.
