ONE: Chris Gwyther

Continuing with our new series, we invited Chris Gwyther to take part in ONE, where you can glimpse the passions, interests and unexpected choices of the individuals behind the UK’s design and manufacturing sectors.

Chris Gwyther is Group Head of Creative at newly-rebranded Istoria Group (formerly Blue Flint Group), a Bristol-based collective of creative agencies with distinct but complementary skill sets. Chris is also the Founder and Creative Director of one of those agencies, designers Phoenix Wharf, who specialise in branding, retail and hospitality.

One COlumn

ONE Place: Seatown, Dorset

I genuinely prefer pebble to sandy beaches, and the steep incline at Seatown means you are always a stone’s throw from the sea and getting wet is an option rather than a necessity. I studied Geology at A level, so the local cliff walks, and fossil-rich pickings are an attraction too.

ONE Designer: Dieter Rams

Dieter-Rams-7x4

I originally studied product design and Dieter Rams is my absolute hero, especially his work for Braun. I see his legacy everywhere, but especially in the design language of Jonny Ive, in spite of the analogue / digital time-lapse between the two.

ONE Hate: Social Media

Social-Media-7x4

I know it’s important for business, but, outside that, I can’t keep far enough away. For me, the negatives definitely outweigh the positives and I dislike both the generally low-grade content and the way it detracts from real, face-to-face contact.

One COlumn 2

We certainly feel that we know Chris a little better now. Tell us what your ONE sport, poet or hero is, we would love to know!
