The flex workspace model solved convenience and scalability. What it hasn’t always solved is how to make people feel connected once they arrive.

In our latest edition of Workplace Matters, Rob Venice, Founder and Creative Director of Motive, argues that the future success of flex space won’t be defined by functionality alone, but by identity, belonging and emotional connection.

“The space functions, but it doesn’t mean anything.”

It’s a powerful observation, and one that sits at the centre of Rob’s piece. As flex occupancy continues to rise, businesses are no longer just looking for somewhere to plug in laptops. They want workplaces that reflect who they are, how they work, and what they want people to feel when they walk through the door.

From authentic London bricks engraved with company values to bespoke installations and AI-generated artwork inspired by machine learning pioneers, the article explores how brand integration can move beyond surface-level graphics and become something far more immersive and meaningful.

Because the most effective workplaces don’t just look good.
They hold memory. They shape culture. They tell a story.

“There’s a story waiting to be told.”

That idea sat at the heart of our conversation with the newly launched hospitality studio Halkyn, the London-based studio born from internationally renowned design group CCD.

The morning after Halkyn’s launch celebrations, we returned to the studio to sit down with Jonathan Aeberhard and the wider team to talk about what this new chapter could mean for hospitality design across London, Europe and beyond.

One of the most revealing moments came when Jonathan explained why the studio launched under a new name rather than simply becoming CCD London.

“We’re cousins,” he explained. “We’re part of the family, we share the DNA and the characteristics, but a cousin can be quite different to a direct daughter or son.”

That balance between global infrastructure and local character became a defining theme throughout the conversation. Alongside the scale and capability of CCD sits a studio that wants to work closely, collaboratively and personally with clients in this market.

The team also spoke candidly about their creative process. “You have to empty your mind of everything else that you’ve done,” explained Design Director Su Doggett. “It almost feels like the property has this story waiting to be told.”

From a luxury riverboat project on the Nile to the importance of designing spaces where guests feel the narrative rather than simply see it, the conversation revealed a studio deeply invested in atmosphere, emotion and experience-led hospitality design.
