In the first of our new discussion series ‘Have Your Say’ we are posing the question ‘Can London [Design Festival] Compete with Milan [Furniture Fair]?’This discussion is open to any opinion; you may feel that London Design Festival surpasses the level of design excellence displayed at Milan Furniture Fair, or that London Design Festival brings other positive attribute to design which Milan does not achieve, perhaps you feel that London can never live up to the reputation of the Milan Fair or that it doesn’t need to. We would like to hear your opinion!

    I don’t think it should be a matter of direct competition between the two cities. Both events offer different insights into the world of design. Milan being possibly the more glamorous and “sophisticated of the two”. London has an edgier and more innovative feel and as such they compliment each other. Anybody with a serious interest in design should visit both if they can.

We have received a fascinating view from Sara Pearce on our LinkedIn post, do you agree with her experience? ‘The most striking difference for me is the abundance of engaged families at the events around the Milan Design Districts. Family members of all ages exploring and enjoying design. It’s their culture, not in a forced “we should take the children to…….” way but something more natural and free-willed. Would love to see design higher up the agenda for schools and families and events like LDF should also help inspire more regional events in the UK.’
