Milliken at CDW 2015

Milliken has been a showroom partner to Clerkenwell Design Week since the event’s inaugural year. For 2015 there’s an exciting and eclectic range of events, talks and workshops planned at the new expanded Milliken studio at 5 Berry Street. The programme this year takes inspiration from Milliken’s latest design collections with Day 1 themed around ‘Rogue Knit’, Day 2 the ‘Clerkenwell Collection’ and Day 3 ‘Naturally Drawn’.

Knit lounge Juju Veil

On Tuesday 19th May Milliken is creating a ‘pop-up knit lounge’ where, under the expert tutorage of Juju Vail, visitors can come along for one of the knitting sessions at 11am, 1pm or 3pm. Juju trained in fashion design and knitted textiles; she teaches makes and writes about all things knit!
Participants will be able to start a new project (materials provided) or bring along their own knitting for help and advice.

Lucinda Grange Carpediem

In what promises to be a gripping talk Lucinda Grange, British adventure photographer, will share her extraordinary work and experiences. Lucinda has travelled the world, scaling famous buildings and structures ascending to extreme heights and locales. Hear the stories behind her world famous photographs: as beautiful as they are stomach churning. Tuesday 19th May, 6.30-7.30pm

Xtina Lamb jelly printing

Printmaker Xtina Lamb, Director of Medway Fine Printmakers will be running hands-on ‘jelly printing’ workshops on Wednesday 20th May. Participants will be able to make their own Clerkenwell themed mono-print. Expert printmaker Xtina has devised a fun and fast way to make unique prints by pressing textured items and stencils into a gelatine plate. Sessions start at 10, 11.30am & 1.30pm.

Milliken art tour

Visitors will have the chance to join a bespoke walking art tour of Clerkenwell created by Paint Jam London and Milliken exclusively for CDW 2015. Discover Clerkenwell’s best kept art secrets, including street art and well hidden gems on this tour of Clerkenwell led by ‘Paint Jam London’ starting from the Milliken Studio.

Gareth Gardner

On Wednesday 20th May 6.30-9.30pm London photographer Gareth Gardener who specialises in architecture and design will run his Urban Photography Workshop, starting at the Milliken Studio. The session will begin with a briefing then participants will take to the streets of Clerkenwell for an outdoor shoot. Returning to the Milliken Studio to upload and critique the images over drinks with prizes for the best!

Charlotte Mann

Thursday 21st May from 12, 2 and 4pm

Milliken hosts a ‘Drawing Lab’ with artist Charlotte Mann. Charlotte Mann is well known for her drawn room installations. Charlotte teaches at the Royal Drawing School, University of Arts London, Camberwell, Chelsea and Central St Martin’s colleges.

Sophie Knight Web of brambles, London Fields

Milliken offers watercolour classes with expert tutor and acclaimed artist Sophie Knight RWS. “Watercolour is sometimes an unpredictable medium, but it doesn’t have to be scary”, says Sophie Knight, who will demonstrate techniques and offer guidance. Participants are invited to come and produce their own watercolour on Thursday 21st May, from 11am & 1pm.

Colour Trends for Spring Summer 2016

Global Color Research will present Spring/Summer 2016 colour and material trends. Leading provider of colour, trend and material forecasting Global Color will present new and exclusive findings specific to contract interiors, including the key influences driving these markets.
