Circularity In Motion AT CDW 2026
Boss Design went back to its roots this year at Clerkenwell Design Week 2026, showcasing a masterclass in contemporary craftsmanship and considered materiality through four newly launched collections.
Against an industry landscape seemingly dominated by AI discussions and future projections, Boss chose instead to champion the human touch.

Founded in 1983 by Brian Murray, today Boss Design manufactures in eight countries across five continents. Boss Design’s original mission to transform spaces in the workplace, education, hospitality, retail and leisure from the ordinary to the extraordinary continues to guide the company alongside a steadfast commitment to sustainability and the environment.
True innovation meets traditional craftsmanship in the Lucy Lounge Chair. In the world of commercial interiors, fabric is often the first element to fail. Once upholstery reaches the end of its life, the entire piece is typically discarded — sent to landfill or incineration — even when the structure beneath remains perfectly sound.

Lucy was engineered so reupholstery can happen in situ, without the furniture ever leaving the building. Its cover is completely removable, requiring no tools, while old covers can be recycled into new textile fibres, extending their value rather than ending their life. The furniture remains in place, the space stays operational, and the product gains a new lease of life.

Beneath the surface, Lucy is engineered for longevity and circularity, with BioPur® foam, a recyclable internal steel frame, responsibly sourced plywood, and minimal fixings for easier disassembly. Lucy isn’t just a chair; it represents a shift in thinking, challenging the assumption that upholstered furniture is disposable.
Nya delivers generous comfort in a compact and versatile form that continues to evolve the Boss lounge portfolio. Designed for spaces where every square metre matters, it responds to the needs of contemporary hospitality, workplace and lounge interiors by offering a smaller footprint without compromising on comfort, character or presence.

Beneath Nya’s soft, sculptural exterior is carefully considered upholstery engineering. At its core is a seat structure inspired by proven comfort principles, combining a resilient sprung platform with multiple layers of foam to create a sit that feels generous, supportive and composed.

A soft hybrid back cushion made from four different materials creates a sink-in quality, while the moulded BioPUR surround gives the chair its enveloping form and refined silhouette. Hidden within, a steel skeleton provides the strength and integrity required for demanding contract environments. Durability and design work in complete harmony.

Lumae joins the Boss portfolio as the latest evolution in meeting and dining innovation. From the outset, the project explored how refinement and strength could coexist, balancing technical performance with a calm, assured aesthetic. Comfort in Lumae is precisely engineered, with either a loose seat cushion for a softer, more relaxed expression or a fixed seat cushion for a cleaner, more architectural profile. In both versions, the upholstery is tailored with crisp seam lines, balanced proportions and meticulous finishing.

Beneath the surface, Lumae is manufactured using BioPUR® foam, an internal steel frame for structural longevity, and responsibly sourced timber and fixings, all brought together through a design engineered for efficient manufacture. Importantly, the chair is also designed for disassembly, allowing it to be stripped and reupholstered to extend its life and reduce waste.
Underpinning all the design and development is The Loop — Boss Design’s circularity programme, created to help furniture live longer, reduce waste and support responsible whole-life carbon stewardship. Built around the company’s expertise in upholstery and furniture making, the programme combines repair, reupholstery, redistribution and responsible end-of-life thinking into one cohesive service.

For over four decades, upholstery craftsmanship has sat at the core of Boss Design. It is how the business began and remains one of the things it does best. The Loop builds on that heritage, applying the same level of care, detail and manufacturing expertise to furniture renewal as it does to new product creation. This is not about reselling used furniture. It is about restoring value through considered craftsmanship, material knowledge and long-term stewardship.
Boss identified a key challenge facing commercial interiors: furniture is too often replaced because spaces evolve, not because products have stopped performing. Furniture should not be treated as a short-term purchase. In many interiors, products are replaced because a scheme changes, a fabric becomes tired, or a workplace evolves — not because the furniture has reached the end of its useful life.

The Loop programme challenges that pattern. It encourages clients to look beyond first installation and consider how products can be repaired, reupholstered, renewed or responsibly processed over time. The objective is simple: keep well-made furniture in use for longer, without compromising quality, appearance or experience.
The Loop is both a mindset and a service structure. It begins with the way products are designed and manufactured and continues through the way they are maintained, renewed, reused, resold, repurposed or recycled. It embodies Boss Design’s commitment to responsible furniture stewardship, connecting how the business designs, makes, maintains and helps products live on. It is not about making circularity complicated. It is about giving clients a clearer, more considered way to reduce impact without lowering expectations.
