Amtico Recent Case Studies

Amtico Flooring has recently completed two new projects. One was the Aston Villa Football Club (1), and another was the Heriot-Watt University (2). Design Insider is delighted to share both projects with our readers in the same article.

When Premier League football team, Aston Villa Football Club, decided to transform one of the hospitality lounges at its home ground – Villa Park – it was in need of practical flooring that could cope with a high level of footfall and provide excellent slip resistance – step up Amtico Spacia 36+!

Benchmark Designs was tasked with converting 18 small hospitality boxes and an existing lounge, in the North Stand, into a brand-new suite – The Gas Lamp. The brief was to create a modern, yet history-fuelled space, that celebrates the 145-year-old club’s founding story while offering superb pitch views.

The layout for the main hospitality space meant that large areas formed part of the emergency escape route, for this reason Building Control requested that flooring had high slip resistance. To meet the requirements, Benchmark Designs opted for Amtico’s Spacia 36+ Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) safety floor, which boasts enhanced slip resistance and antimicrobial technology, but with the design possibilities that LVT planks and tiles bring.

The second project is the Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, which is the eighth oldest higher education institute in the UK and Scotland’s most international university. When it set about refurbishing Café Brio, which sits at the heart of the campus, the university chose the Amtico Signature collection. The vibrant colours and laying patterns proved the ideal way to give the space a much-needed makeover.

Durability was a priority in order to withstand the heavy footfall from the 10,500 students and staff based at the Edinburgh campus. Thomas Day, Head of Hospitality Services, had previously specified Amtico Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) in another café area and was pleased with how hardwearing that floor was. The brief was to create a feature seating area and vibrant corridor-style walkway to celebrate today’s diverse society, with a nod to the university’s international status and the LGBTQ+ flag.

“Amtico’s design and sales teams were very supportive and made the installation, in partnership with the flooring company, stress-free and seamless. The ease, the acclimation and projected longevity of this project means that we are actively looking for the next area to refresh and revitalise, while making flooring something more than just a surface to walk on. Amtico enabled us to make the floor part of the destination.” Thomas Day, Head of Hospitality Services, Heriot-Watt University.
