Commercial Interiors UK and Design Insider are proud to launch Design In Focus, a new three-day programme of talks, discussion and connection at Commercial Design in the Park, Garden of St James`s, St James`s Walk, EC1R 0EA, from 19 to 21 May 2026.⁠

Bringing together voices from across the commercial interiors sector, the programme has been created to offer insight, inspiration and meaningful conversation for designers, operators, specifiers and industry leaders.⁠

Last month, Design Insider’s Jim Biddulph travelled to MaterialDistrict Utrecht 2026 to explore how material innovation is shaping the future of the built environment.⁠
⁠
What’s clear is that the focus has shifted.⁠
⁠
This is no longer just about newness or aesthetics, it’s about application, circularity and real-world impact.⁠
⁠
From bacteria-grown tiles and mycelium acoustic panels to textiles re-engineered from waste and fully compostable foams, the exhibition revealed a sector actively rethinking how materials are sourced, made and used.⁠
⁠
There’s also a noticeable shift in mindset:⁠
➡️ from sustainability as a concept⁠
➡️ to circularity as a practical, measurable process⁠
⁠
The question now isn’t if better materials exist, it’s how quickly the industry can adopt them at scale.⁠
