Herman Miller Expands Bound with Height-Adjustable Booths and Desking
Bound by Herman Miller Sit-Stand Booth and Desking introduce an innovative approach to height-adjustable workstations, enhancing both visual and acoustic privacy within the workplace.

Herman Miller has expanded its Bound collection in Europe with the introduction of Bound Sit-Stand Booth and Bound Sit-Stand Desking. First introduced in 2023, Bound by Herman Miller began as a series of solutions designed to absorb sound and reduce visual distractions. With this latest expansion, the collection now includes a high-performance height-adjustable workstation and a desking system that allows workstations to be arranged side-by-side or back-to-back.
Designed to increase productivity and support focused work, whether at an assigned workstation, in a touchdown space within the open office, or in a library setting, Bound Sit-Stand Booth and Desking integrate seamlessly into the floorplate while enhancing visual and acoustic privacy. Both solutions are engineered to deliver the highest standard of sound absorption.

Height-adjustable desk set-ups play an important role in ergonomics and wellbeing. Beyond encouraging movement between seated and standing positions, they help align the work surface with natural elbow height while seated, allowing shoulders to relax and arms to remain supported in a neutral position.
Bound can be paired with any ergonomic chair from Herman Miller’s award-winning portfolio, including Aeron, Embody, Cosm, Mirra 2 and Sayl. The collection also promotes health and productivity through movement. After extended periods of sitting, subtle nudges or vibrations can be programmed through the handset to remind users to change posture.
Bound Sit-Stand Booth integrates height-adjustability within a calm, distraction-free workspace. It is available in five textile families, with mono or duo-colour upholstery options for the interior and exterior, alongside a variety of hard surface finishes. Integrated power access and cable management help eliminate visual clutter.

The new booth and desking screens achieve Class A acoustic performance, the highest level of sound absorption available. The panel stands at 1400mm high, while the work surface rises to 1250mm, providing significant visual privacy.
With its ability to reduce both audible and visual distractions, Bound was also developed with neurodiversity and wellbeing in mind. The intuitive height-adjustability supports focused work over extended periods, while contributing to overall employee wellbeing through ergonomic design.
The structure incorporates plush panels that conceal an easy-to-access height-adjustable mechanism, alongside generous under-desk space that accommodates a wide range of body types and supports wheelchair users and other mobility needs.

Sustainability was also a key consideration throughout the design process. The desking system incorporates a recycled aluminium frame and height-adjustable actuators designed to reduce carbon impact. A carbon-negative hemp crop* is used for the infill, further minimising the product’s footprint.
Locally farmed in the UK, the natural hemp fibres are fully circular, with all offcuts reprocessed into the same products. The material produces no toxic off-gassing and naturally regulates humidity, helping prevent dampness and mould.¹

Ryan Anderson, Vice President of Global Research and Planning at MillerKnoll said:
“Bound provides visual boundary, muted colours, and soft textures to help provide relief from open-plan distractions, and its flexible nature allows floor plans to be finely tuned.”
“Our research at MillerKnoll has determined that employees need to pivot throughout their workdays from collaborative work to focused, concentrated work. While the primary reason for coming into the office is to connect with others, 15% of workers cite finding a quiet place to work as their main motivation, and offices must provide assurance that this need will be supported if they are to attract people back.”
Bound by Herman Miller Sit-Stand Booth and Desking debuted at Clerkenwell Design Week in Herman Miller’s London showroom at The Sans, where visitors were able to experience a refreshed showroom environment showcasing new workplace settings, seating solutions, immersive installations and upcoming product innovations.
