You’re Invited! Dining with Cultural Inspirations: Lara Twiby, Interior Designer at DLSM Studio

Imagine hosting a dinner party where every detail – from the setting and soundtrack to the food and guest list – reflects the people, ideas and influences that have shaped your creative journey. In this joyful feature, we step into the mind of Lara Twiby, Interior Designer at DLSM Studio, to discover her ultimate dinner party and the fascinating mix of guests who have inspired her outlook on design, creativity and life.

Party setup

Venue

A secluded meadow at dusk, surrounded by wildflowers and lit by candlelight. The journey through the fields builds anticipation and appetite, while the floral scents and the open-air setting create an immersive backdrop for a dreamy evening ahead.

Menu

Small plates in season foraged from the surrounding areas – simple flavours but beautifully prepared, tastefully enjoyed with a cold bottle of Sussex sparkling & fresh elderflower fizz that tickle your taste buds.

Entertainment

The talented Olivia Dean backed by a full brass orchestra. Her soulful and relaxed voice would set the tone and ambience for the evening, with the grandeur of the band creating a captivating juxtaposition with the natural landscape and star-filled sky.

Guests

Es Devlin (Artist & Stage Designer): I am in awe of Devlin’s ability to transform space into a psychological experience. I would love to discuss her “out of the box” process and how she finds the initial spark for her monumental wonders. Her work inspires me to think beyond four walls and view every interior as a stage for human connection, blending light and structure to create something truly wonderful.

Vivienne Westwood (Fashion Designer & Activist): Westwood is my ultimate icon for artistic bravery. She was never afraid to express herself or go against the grain of passing trends, a quality I strive to bring into my design work. Her influence reminds me to trust my creative instincts, challenge the norm, and remember that the most memorable designs are often those that dare to be a little rebellious.

Kelly Wearstler (Interior Designer): I would love Kelly Wearstler to join my dinner party. She has such a unique style and isn’t afraid to use colour, bold textures and materials. Discussing her work and creative approach would be fascinating and hear her advice on how to become successful in our field as a woman.

David Attenborough (Broadcaster & Natural Historian): David would be a wonder to meet. He would undoubtedly keep us all captivated with his storytelling. He brings a unique sense of wisdom and I’m sure would be able to share some amazing facts about the natural world here in the meadows beyond what we can see, reminding us of the beauty in our surroundings. He inspires me to stay curious and to design with a deep respect for the environment and the natural materials that ground us.

Joel Dicker (Author): Reading has a huge impact on design, using your imagination to create worlds. Joel Dicker is my favourite author, I would love to understand how his brain works, coming from another angle, on how to create worlds or experiences, not just physical spaces. Imagine if he wrote us all into a story plot that we can discuss through the night, we could step into a mystery novel that will unfold.

Sean Lock (Comedian): Sean Lock would bring an unmatched humour to this group and spark light-hearted. It would be fascinating to see how his mind interacts with such different creative personalities, reminding us that whilst we are all passionate about our distinct areas of expertise, there is nothing like coming together with amazing people, eating mouth-watering food in a stunning setting, and joyful making memories that will live with you forever.
