Ten years ago, Bjelin launched with an ambition to do things differently.

A decade later, the company is celebrating 10 years of growth, international expansion and innovation, alongside a 40% increase in Woodura flooring production over the past year.

At the heart of that growth is a clear focus on making better use of natural resources. Developed by sister company Välinge Innovation, Woodura technology enables durable wood flooring to be produced using significantly less raw material, helping maximise the value of every tree.

As Bjelin enters its second decade, the focus is firmly on scaling production, expanding its global footprint and continuing to challenge conventional thinking around flooring manufacture.

A significant new partnership could help reshape the future of tile manufacturing.

Johnson Tiles has announced a collaboration with climate-tech innovator Dekiln to support the commercialisation of a pioneering kiln-free tile technology that could reduce embodied carbon by up to 94% compared to conventional ceramic tiles.

Combining more than 125 years of ceramics expertise with breakthrough materials innovation, the partnership aims to accelerate the development of ceramic-like surfaces made from recycled waste minerals and plant-derived binders, without the need for energy-intensive firing.

As pressure grows to decarbonise the built environment, this collaboration highlights the increasingly important role established manufacturers and emerging technology companies can play in bringing new material solutions to market.

A thoughtful perspective on design rigour, lasting relevance and creating spaces that people return to time and again.
