Philip Cowan Interiors Collaborates with Guesthouse Hotels to Transform Guest Bedrooms at No. 15 Bath

Philip Cowan Interiors has collaborated once more with Guesthouse Hotels to support the transformation of guest bedrooms as part of the recent refurbishment of No.15 Bath.

Cowans provides a complete end-to-end soft furnishings service for healthcare, hospitality and luxury residential projects across the UK and Europe. Combining extensive industry knowledge with practical on-site expertise, the company manages every stage of the process, from site visits, consultation and accurate measuring through to in-house manufacturing, professional installation and ongoing aftercare.

Their experienced team produces a wide range of bespoke soft furnishings, including curtains, voiles, pelmets, Roman blinds, bed runners, throws and cushions, ensuring the highest standards of quality, craftsmanship and service. By working closely with clients, designers, contractors and project teams, Cowans delivers seamless, fully managed solutions that keep projects running smoothly from concept to completion.

Working closely on this project with the Guesthouse Hotels team and Interior Design Director Emma Montier, the Cowan’s workroom produced a selection of bespoke soft furnishings designed to complement the property’s distinctive character.

Set on one of Bath’s grand Georgian streets, No.15 sits in the heart of the city centre, surrounded by the heritage and culture the city is renowned for.  From the pavement, the listed façade offers a glimpse of what lies within.  Inside, guests move through thoughtfully curated spaces where every detail has been considered, from the layered textures to the carefully chosen finishes. Artwork features prominently throughout the hotel, adding depth and calm to the overall atmosphere that the Guesthouse Hotels brand is known for.

The bedroom scheme continues this approach with a look that is simple, elegant, and quietly confident – an aesthetic that has become a hallmark of Guesthouse Hotels’ projects.

“The design of the guestrooms is rooted in the character and heritage of its Georgian setting, allowing the building’s harmonious proportions and elegant architectural features to speak for themselves.  A soft peach-toned lime wash on the walls complements the iconic Bath stone backdrop, while classical furniture selections reinforce a sense of timeless refinement.

The surrounding cityscape – defined by its patina of age, ornate ironwork, and florals – is reflected in the use of botanical shapes and prints throughout. This is complemented by a fresh, light, and airy fabric scheme, aligned with the Guesthouse identity, which informs the bed drapery, window treatments, and plush carpeting, creating a calm and inviting atmosphere.

In select rooms, hand-sewn tapestries by local artist Tessa Layzelle draw on the nods to mysticism found throughout the city.  This sense of the ethereal is further expressed through handmade celestial-themed bedside lampshades and delicate glass-domed pendants.”

Emma Montier ~ Interior Design Director – Guesthouse Hotels

To support this vision, Philip Cowan Interiors hand-crafted triple pinch pleat curtains in their Lincolnshire workroom, creating a full and luxurious finish that complements the property’s elegant proportions.  Each set was blackout lined to support light control and thermal efficiency, while also helping to reduce external noise – enhancing the sense of peace and tranquillity that Guesthouse Hotels aims to deliver.

Roman blinds were produced in a contrasting fabric and carefully staggered to add visual interest and further elevate the window dressing.  In guestrooms where Roman blinds were not specified, premium roller blinds with a luxury finish were installed as a stylish and versatile alternative.  A sheer fabric was specifically selected to balance the weight of the curtains, providing daytime privacy and maintaining comfort well into the lighter summer evenings.

A final detail brought additional depth to the scheme: a matching curtain positioned behind the head of the bed, adding another layer of texture and refinement.  Brass-toned and satin-finished poles and fittings completed the installation, offering a subtle yet elegant finishing touch that tied each space together.

Through close collaboration with Guesthouse Hotels and Emma Montier, Philip Cowan Interiors was proud to contribute craftsmanship, practicality, and considered detailing to a refurbishment that celebrates the building’s Georgian heritage while delivering a calm, contemporary guest experience.
