THDP Completes Transformation of Dom Pedro Vilamoura into Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve
THDP has completed the transformation of the former Dom Pedro Vilamoura Hotel into the newly opened Hyatt Regency Vilamoura, now welcoming guests as one of the Algarve’s latest upscale hospitality destinations.

Delivered in collaboration with DETAILS, the project repositions the property through a comprehensive redesign of guest rooms, suites, public areas and food and beverage outlets. Located just 20 minutes from Faro International Airport, the hotel has been reimagined to reflect a contemporary, design-led approach rooted in the character and identity of the Algarve.
THDP led the interior design and visual concept, working alongside Washington, DC-based Streetsense on the repositioning of the hotel’s F&B offering. The transformation has been delivered in phases, culminating in the hotel’s full reopening under the Hyatt Regency brand in early 2026.

A design rooted in place
The design draws on Portugal’s artisanal traditions, coastal landscape and architectural language to create a contemporary yet grounded guest experience. Handcrafted azulejo tiles, woven natural materials and a palette of warm, earthy tones are layered with refined detailing to establish a strong sense of place throughout the hotel.

“Hyatt Regency Vilamoura represents a considered balance between modernity and tradition,” said Nicholas Hickson, Co-Founder of THDP and lead designer on the project. “The aim was to create a hotel that feels both contemporary and deeply connected to its location – capturing the light, textures and atmosphere of the Algarve in a way that is both authentic and enduring.”

Reimagined guest experience
The completed transformation by THDP includes 257 redesigned guest rooms and suites, finished with natural timber, soft upholstery and a palette of ocean blues and sandy neutrals. Bespoke details such as raffia headboards, Portuguese ceramic accents and custom lighting add character throughout.

THDP also designed a new lobby and arrival experience, centred around a feature bar, integrated planting and curated artworks, creating a social hub that feels both dynamic and welcoming.

In collaboration with Streetsense, THDP repositioned and reimagined the dining and social spaces, introducing an octagonal terrace bar, live cooking stations and an al fresco dining concept that celebrates the Algarve’s culinary heritage.

Outdoor and wellness facilities were also enhanced as part of THDP’s design, with upgraded fitness and spa areas, an improved pool deck and landscaped gardens designed to encourage relaxation and extend guest dwell time.

Sustainability and longevity
The project places emphasis on material authenticity and long-term performance. Locally sourced materials, durable finishes and energy-conscious solutions have been prioritised to support both operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.
A new benchmark for Vilamoura
The opening of Hyatt Regency Vilamoura forms part of a wider programme of investment in the region led by DETAILS. The repositioning of the hotel reflects a broader ambition to elevate the quality and diversity of hospitality offering within Vilamoura.
Combining Hyatt’s global brand standards with THDP’s hospitality design expertise, the project establishes a new benchmark for contemporary resort design in the Algarve.
