Curtis Furniture Delivers Five-Star Furniture for Duo of Premier Golf Hotels

Setting new standards in golf course hospitality, two premium hotels – Dunluce Lodge in Portrush, Northern Ireland, and Seaton House in St Andrews, Scotland – recently opened their doors under the Links Collection brand. Managed by Valor Hospitality Partners – a leading global full-service hospitality company headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, USA – the hotels have been designed to reflect the elegance of traditional British country house interiors. Curtis Furniture was appointed by long-term fit-out partners Fitzsimons to manufacture and install all bedroom furniture across both sites, showcasing its capabilities in bespoke hotel craftsmanship.

A unified vision

The two properties had different interior designers – Brill Design at Dunluce Lodge, and Upperworth Studios at Seaton House – and required unique finishes. However, the design brief specified that the overarching aesthetic had to be consistent across both hotels, with décor using rich materials and timeless designs. As part of this, Curtis Furniture was tasked with creating a suite of fitted and freestanding bedroom furniture that would not only deliver visual impact but also meet the operational demands of luxury hospitality.

At Seaton House, features included intricately designed headboards with laser-cut iron antlers, and an array of seating including sofas, sofa beds, and striking green leather desk chairs with traditional studding. Dunluce Lodge followed a similar specification with some slight differences to achieve a cohesive visual language between the two hotels.

Bespoke challenges, unique solutions

In order to overcome the complex design challenges associated with bespoke manufacturing as part of the project, Curtis Furniture had to develop several custom solutions.

Key highlights in the bedrooms in both hotels were the ornate bathroom vanity units crafted by Curtis Furniture, which were curved and built from solid timber. Achieving this finish required the use of a custom jig developed in-house by Curtis Furniture to allow for precise CNC machining. Unique jigs were also required to make bespoke mirrors with curved detailing, with both features highlighting Curtis Furniture’s ability to innovate in line with a specific design brief.

At Dunluce Lodge, the designer’s vision was to decorate the walls with shaker style panelling, however each room had different wall dimensions and angles to contend with. To accommodate this, Curtis Furniture conducted detailed site surveys, developed numerous CAD drawings and 3D models, and created 10 individual panel variations to ensure a seamless, uniform aesthetic. The natural wood panels then each had to be individually hand-stained – which proved challenging given their grain variation. To overcome this, Curtis Furniture applied rigorous quality control to maintain consistency and achieve a coherent finish in every room.

Seaton House

At Seaton House, the headboards that featured laser-cut antler motifs in metal had to be prototyped, tested, and adjusted based on room dimensions and client feedback, demonstrating the agile way of working Curtis Furniture is known for. Curtis Furniture also created burr walnut-topped coffee tables using eight pieces of veneer stitched together to simulate a single timber slab. The manufacturer also made writing tables styled to resemble vintage leather luggage chests, complete with bronze powder-coated trim and faux rivet detailing.

Project management with precision

The projects reflect a growing demand among luxury hoteliers for truly tailored interiors, designed not only to impress but to reflect craftsmanship and heritage. Curtis Furniture’s ability to manufacture bespoke pieces, while delivering exemplary customer service, is what sets it apart from the competition.

Jason Platten, Head of Design at Curtis Furniture, said:

“Such luxurious settings give us an opportunity to think very creatively, and really push our abilities to develop new means of manufacturing. These two beautiful hotels offered a chance to demonstrate just how far our factory has come in recent years in terms of innovation and show that our team has the ingenuity and skill to handle very intricate briefs.

“Alongside the creation of each bedroom’s features and fixtures, we assigned a project manager to oversee the job from start to finish, and ensured our installation managers were on site throughout. Being UK-based means we’re always ready to respond to customers’ needs, and we don’t rely on anyone else to get the job done – we do it ourselves, and we make sure it’s done to the highest possible standards. This is part of the reason why Fitzsimons return to work with us time after time.”
