Following two 2026 iF Design Awards, we spoke with Sergio Silva of Humanscale about what recognition really says about a product… and the thinking behind it.⁠

A few things stood out 👇⁠

• Great design isn’t about trade-offs; ergonomics, sustainability and usability have to work together from day one⁠
• Awards matter most when they come from rigorous, independent scrutiny⁠
• The real measure of a product isn’t launch impact, but how it performs years down the line⁠
• Recognition doesn’t signal arrival, it pushes the team to question, refine and do better⁠

From a tiny house in Upstate New York to restaurants, hospitality spaces and even offices within the iconic Chrysler Building, each project takes a different approach, yet shares the same design thinking.⁠

As Bjelin’s Head of Design, Hannes Boman, puts it:⁠
“From a design perspective, all these projects tell the same story… creating environments that feel both reassuring and elegant, while delivering performance that lasts for generations.”⁠
