Built by skaters, shaped by culture, and still inspiring generations 50 years on.

Woods Bagot has designed Skate 50 at the Southbank Centre, an immersive exhibition celebrating the legendary Undercroft Skate Space and the community that made it what it is. From film and sound to custom furniture designed for future reuse, the exhibition captures the raw energy, creativity and spirit that have defined this iconic London destination for half a century.

As the birthplace of British skateboarding, the Undercroft holds a special place in the story of contemporary culture, and Skate 50 brings that legacy to life in a way that feels dynamic, reflective and full of character.

Open from 30 April to 21 June, this is a brilliant tribute to a space that continues to evolve through the people who use it.

How do you soften a building that was never meant to feel soft?

At Locke Copenhagen, A-nrd has taken on a vast, monolithic shell of concrete, terrazzo and glass and turned it into something altogether more human.

This is the studio’s first hospitality project in continental Europe, and rather than competing with the scale of the architecture, the approach is quieter, more considered: layering warmth and texture into the space through furniture, textiles and art.

What unfolds across the ground floor is a sequence of spaces designed for how people actually gather, move and spend time:

• A sculptural reception anchored by handcrafted volcanic lava tiles
• Lounge spaces broken into softer, more intimate pockets
• A restaurant conceived as a “green oasis” within the building
• A café that nods to Danish modernism through a richer, more tactile palette

It’s a project that feels less like a single space and more like a series of atmospheres, carefully composed to evolve throughout the day.

Junal Barboza of Thirdway shares the thinking behind Airwallex’s London headquarters and explains how architecture, materiality and spatial planning were used to create a workplace that feels distinctly aligned with the brand. The result is a refined, confident interior that supports culture, experience and everyday use.

This is a project shaped by restraint, warmth and clarity, with each design move helping to communicate who Airwallex is through the space itself.

“Global brands don’t necessarily need loud offices. They need spaces that reflect who they are and support the people using them every day.”
Junal Barboza, Architect and Designer, Thirdway
