Heathfield & Co designs bespoke lighting for Six Senses London at The Whiteley
As Six Senses makes its long-awaited UK debut at The Whiteley in Bayswater, Heathfield & Co finds itself at the heart of one of London’s most talked-about openings.

The British lighting brand – a trusted name among interior designers and hotel groups for over 40 years – contributed bespoke fittings across the entire property, playing a central role in creating the calm, restorative atmosphere that sits at the core of the Six Senses experience. The project – five years in the making – marks one of the most significant hospitality commissions in Heathfield & Co’s history.

Heathfield & Co design and manufacture timeless lighting for modern living. They understand the delicate balance between form and function, which is why their designs look just as beautiful turned off, as they do when they’re switched on.
Working in close collaboration with interior design firm AvroKO and procurement specialist Blue Moon Procurement, the studio developed 27 entirely bespoke lighting designs spanning table lamps, wall lights, ceiling fittings and pendants, installed across 109 guestrooms, suites and public areas throughout the Grade II-listed Art Deco building.

The restored former Whiteleys department store, redesigned by Foster + Partners, presented a singular challenge: creating a lighting scheme that honours a protected historic building while underpinning a contemporary wellness-led guest experience.
For AvroKO’s Senior Design Manager Luca Ferraro, lighting was never an afterthought;
“Bespoke decorative fixtures were planned early to provide warm, elegant and refined lighting, perfectly transitioning the hotel from a brighter daytime hub to an intimate evening retreat. Lighting was treated as a primary architectural material.”

That philosophy demanded a manufacturing partner capable of both craft and scale. Across five years of development, Heathfield & Co’s projects team iterated on samples, refined dimensions and finishes, and navigated the technical demands of integrating new electrical components into a century-old listed structure – all while maintaining the handmade quality the scheme required. Every fitting was assembled and quality-controlled at the studio’s workshop in Kent before installation.

Patrick Watson, Commercial Director, Heathfield & Co, said:
“We’ve worked on a lot of hotels, but Six Senses London sits in a category of its own. The heritage of the building, the rigour of AvroKO’s brief, the centrality of wellness to everything – it demanded the very best of our team. We’re enormously proud of what’s been achieved here.”

The result is a lighting scheme with a single, consistent colour temperature held across the entire property – from the grand double-height lobby to the stillness of the spa – and light that shifts gently as the day progresses. The fixtures unify the property while allowing each space its own distinct character. It is a masterclass in restraint, and a fitting landmark for a brand that has spent more than four decades perfecting the art of making light feel effortless.
