Cantrell & Crowley has 20 years of hotel and hospitality design expertise. Their award winning expertise is evident when you enter the Radisson Blu Dublin Airport Hotel. You can feel their experience shining through the moment you walk through the doors.

As an established architect and interior design service, they used experienced international contract furniture provider Inside Out Contracts, to supply furniture in each area of the hotel refurbishment for the Lobby, Lounge and Green Room. This included some bespoke furniture items, which will be covered in more detail later.

Background: Hotel Size and Layout

The hotel was built in 1998 and a refurbishment programme started in 2018. The hotel has 5 floors, 27 meeting rooms and 229 bedrooms.

In other words, this is a large, spacious, modern hotel built for a variety of uses such as business meetings, events and large scale accommodation for a wide range of people, from families to business executives. There are 4 main restaurants and bars at the hotel, including the Collage Restaurant for stylish dining, the Lounge for informal coffee and lunch, T3 Bar for an evening drink and the Green Room, which is a wonderful party space.

Overall Design Style: Colours and Materials

The overall essence is one of being peaceful, tranquil and relaxing. The large public areas all include a wide variety of plants and wood is a material which features heavily in the interior design and furniture. There are warm creams and soft greys to contrast with the occasional mustard yellow, dusky orange or leaf green upholstery.

The Hotel Lobby

Modern, fresh and inviting are all words to describe the hotel lobby design. The hotel lobby is the entrance point for the hotel and therefore, the first experience someone has of the interior of the hotel. As the heart of the hotel, capturing the design essence in this location is a priority for interior designers. This is an area where people check in, check out, ask questions at the front desk and wait for a variety of periods of time, sometimes in groups, sometimes as individuals.

The challenge for the lobby layout is to create different areas for people to be able to wait, work, or rest in a way, they can feel relaxed, have private space and feel at ease. The lobby sofas are a modern pebble style, which is used with the Lennox high back lounge chair and coffee tables. This is the perfect seating variety, giving options for both groups and individuals. Guests experience the feeling of seclusion and comfort, whilst also being in a large open space.

The Lounge

The Lounge is full of natural light and is a multipurpose space. This area functions as a location to dine for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as providing a comfortable space to work and relax.

This is a large open plan area which has partitions to create different areas within one open plan room. There are two bespoke tables created.

The bespoke bundle table and the bespoke cafe high table which has large chunky columns and made to a specific measurement to sit alongside the partition width.

The Green Room

A slice of the Mediterranean is brought into this room though a real olive tree which is situated in front of a large mirrored wall, which gives this naturally light room, the feeling of being light, fresh and bright. There is a row of gorgeous green foliage behind the banquette seating to bring the essence of nature into The Green Room. The side chairs and table tops are largely made of natural materials such as solid Beech or Ash wood and warm tones add to a comfortable, contemporary space.

A Contemporary Hotel Interior Design Idea to Take Away

For interior design concepts that want to harness a tranquil environment, then consider harnessing the natural environment. Lots of plants, use of mirrors and natural light where possible. For the furniture it’s clear that natural wood is an essential ingredient, along with warm neutral tones such as cream, green and brown shades.
