Noukku, A NEW Collection by Scion Inspired the Spirit of Scandinavian Design

Scandinavia isn’t just somewhere you visit – it’s something you experience.  Its essence and ‘good life’ vibe – forests, fresh air, fjords, food, freedom and fun – are all encapsulated by Scion’s latest collection, Noukku. Named after a species of Finnish wildflower, Noukku is totally in tune with the life-affirming ‘Hygge’ trend: it’s a versatile, spontaneous collection that invigorates your senses and encourages you to step away from your busy lifestyle.Scion_2017_Noukku_05_HRresizeInspired by the great outdoors, and bringing a feeling of artisan design into the modern-day home, Noukku comprises seven spirited fabric motifs in a mix of prints combined with embroidery. There are also nine coordinating wallcovering designs, and a complementary book of textured weaves.

Scion Designer Hannah Bowen explains how Noukku evolved;

“I wanted to create an approachable collection oozing with personality. The designs originated as collages, with lots of ‘cutting and sticking’ to create a bold graphic look, but still retaining the playful nature of paper cuts. I also felt texture was also extremely important, so Noukku contains a number of ‘homespun’, tactile fabrics.”

Scion_2017_Noukku_04_HRresizeMany of the designs take their names from Finnish wildflowers: naïve florals and abstract trees are celebrated through retro motifs; a floral trail captivates with its simplicity; kissing birds celebrate a spirit of innocent pleasure; a new favourite, the cheeky Barnie Owl, and irregular geometric half-moon designs delight with their freshness.  Embroidered stripes, jacquard checks and small-scale linear lattice designs complete the collection.

The funky fabrics and wallpapers are teamed with Neo, a range of 16 upholstery-weight tweedy, chunky weaves for layering textures and scale.

Noukku is brought to life through an invigorating colour palette inspired by natural elements.  Refreshing combinations include: foxglove, sage and forest, butterscotch and dandelion; slate and biscuit; gecko, pacific and glacier, satsuma and sky; watermelon, flamingo and lemonade; honey, cocoa and slate.

The collection will be launched in January 2017, via a network of stockists nationally and internationally.
