Nurturing Young Talent at Skopos

Looking back on a fabulous few years, the Skopos design team have been enriched each year by the presence of an additional team member, joining them on only a temporary basis from the Arts and Humanities department at Huddersfield Uni.

Hitting the ground running, each student (BA Hons Textiles) has been given the responsibilities of a full Skopos design colleague, with ownership of key new designs for our printed collections, taking each developed design through the various stage of design development and delivery, before launching them into the Skopos portfolio.

As a part of their learning journey, they have played a valuable part in developing and offering ideas to meet the requirements of Bespoke project briefs and have also helped to push woven product collections through the design, development and purchasing lifecycle.

Milly Haram

Beyond project specific tasks, they have commanded the CGI generation of lifestyle images, gathered market research and reported on relevant industry trends, alongside tasks for the Marketing Department covering content generation, assisting with photography and video, helping to promote the Skopos brand. The role has been varied, exciting and a fabulous learning journey for all 3 students (and the wider team) and helped the individuals to realise successful outcomes at university, and beyond.

Lucy Noone

Year one saw Milly Haram input into our Treehouse print collection, with a small geometric print named in her honour. Year 2, we brought in Lucy Noone, who helped the team with the creation and launch of the STUDIO print library. Both students went on to achieve 1st class honours degrees and to start successful related career paths.

Adding that key ingredient of young talent into the team has shaken up the status quo at Skopos, challenged the ‘usual’ way of thinking and brought a fresh vibe into the Studio, pushing a refreshed and surprising handwriting to the forefront.

Rachel, from student to fully ensconced team member

Though Skopos’ relationship with The University of Huddersfield School of Arts & Humanities has unfortunately now come to an end, Skopos are delighted to welcome the final student, Rachel Hobkinson, into the Skopos family on a permanent basis. Having just completed her university path with an amazing 1st class honours degree, Rachel has hopped straight from student life back to a full-time role with the team.

Based at the Skopos Studio for 4 days, with one day at our textile printing company, just down the road, Rachel will be fully immersed in every stage of textile design from concept through to final production and launch, expanding her experience of each part of the process.

Rachel, has certainly found her groove in the world of textiles in West Yorkshire, brought along her own desk photos and mug and now faces a bright and exciting career, helping to shape the future of one of Yorkshire’s finest contract textile suppliers.

Rachel has proved herself to be a truly determined character, who has displayed great tenacity to carve her own way through life and find her passion. With an obvious eagerness to learn and a natural talent for design, it is apparent that our young colleague has all the attributes to make a brilliant contribution to the business in the near future and beyond.

Where does she take her inspiration from? When you take a closer look at her Skopos projects and the flagship pieces that came together to complete her final University show, you can appreciate how her mind works. She observes, creates, challenges and then presents ideas which are a side step from ‘ordinary’ and take the user on a journey. Her keen eye for detail and pattern of self-critique, lead her to explore unexpected, delightful outcomes.

Starting in June 2026, Rachel has fitted straight back into the Skopos team, helping to shape the future of textile innovation in Yorkshire. We are all excited to have Rachel back on board and look forward to watching her develop and grow as a designer within the Skopos team.
