Product Focus: James Shaw at LDF

During London Design Festival we caught up with promising new designer James Shaw, to learn a bit more about his installation that was part of the Shoreditch Design Triangle and was hosted by Ace Hotel.

Working out of his small studio space in Elephant & Castle, James designs and makes a wonderful collection of furniture and furnishings with a difference.

Plastic Primitives explores the relationship we as the viewer have with plastic, a material that use everyday but often with an element of guilt, James has made us question this relationship further though by setting his plastic creations within nature setting, commenting on the fact that plastic was originally a natural material.

The plastic shapes are made with James’s self created ‘extruding gun’ and the form is very much directed by the way in which the plastics decides.

Let us know what you think of the designs in the comment section below…
