Q&A Egger – BCFA Member of the Month

Throughout 2021 we will be celebrating our BCFA member through our new Member of the Month series.  During February we will showcase Egger, we began by speaking with Elliott Fairlie, Head of Decor Management, UK & Ireland.

Please could you introduce Egger?

EGGER is a leading international wood-based materials manufacturer, founded in 1961 by Fritz Egger Senior. We remain family owned, and produce products for commercial and residential projects in the furniture, interior design, building and flooring industries.  Product highlights include Melamine Faced Chipboard (MFC), Laminate, and Structural and Laminate Flooring. Our diverse range of products are found across the world in offices, retail spaces, restaurants, bars, hotels, student accommodation, kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms.

Well known for investing in new, innovative products, we also offer free online design services including Virtual Design Studio, Worktop Finder and Combination Guide, EGGER Decorative Collection App, Flooring Visualiser, Virtual Samples and more.

The EGGER Decorative Collection 2020-22, EGGER Worktops Collection 2020, EGGER PRO Flooring Collection and EGGER Advanced Structural Flooring are available nationwide via a network of distributors and retailers.

Are worktops restricted to being used in a kitchen?

Our worktops can be used across a number of different applications. Whilst they are still a popular choice for residential kitchen projects, we’re now seeing them used regularly in commercial spaces. Student accommodation and office projects are specifying worktops for desks, retail spaces are using them for counters and the hospitality sector is using them for tables.

You have launched designs within this collection which realistically reproduce natural solid surfaces, could you tell me more?

34 carefully chosen decors, three thicknesses and two profiles make up this sophisticated collection of worktops. Realistic reproductions in 16 mm, 25 mm and 38 mm include oak, marble, stone and granite, offering a low maintenance, cost effective alternative to solid surfaces.

How have you ensured that a realistic timber finish has been achieved?

With enhanced print and texture technology, creating designs that look and feel like never before, our woodgrain designs in our 38mm postform range offer a highly realistic finish. In addition, we also offer four Halifax Oak decors, from EGGER’s popular Feelwood range, which are available as 38 mm square edge worktops. Realistic to the touch, the design and texture perfectly align to produce a surface almost indistinguishable from real oak.

You offer worktops with an MDF and chipboard core. What can an interior designer achieve with this?

With matching materials at its heart, the range offers the opportunity to develop designs with a highly desirable coordinated look.

A highlight of the EGGER Worktop Collection 2020 is the elegant range of six striking 16 mm square edge material surfaces. Double-sided, the worktops are perfect for the creation of waterfall islands, shelving and side panels. Matching decors are also available as a 38 mm postformed worktop, so an on-trend, thick and thin finish can be achieved.

How does your worktop collection enable a full interior solution?

Suitable for kitchens, bathroom, offices and retail spaces, there is a finish to suit every interior. As a stylish alternative to tiling, matching upstands and splashbacks are available for all decors. They create a coordinated finish, whilst being simple to look after and maintain.

Do you also offer products which assist with installation?
A range of installation accessories has been developed alongside this new collection to provide easy access to essential items. This includes two installation kits, and EGGERSeal waterproof sealant and adhesive. If used in conjunction with the EGGER Worktop Fitting Guide, the worktop is guaranteed for 10 years.

Why is it important for you to offer such a comprehensive collection of finishes and sizes?

With this considered and highly versatile offer, the design possibilities are endless, which allows the creation of highly creative on trend designs.

In addition to our standard worktop length of 4100 mm, 38 mm postformed worktops are also available as 3050 mm. Offered in 24 on-trend woodgrain and material decors, this size is optimised for easy transportation and fitting.

How does your worktop collection adhere to your environmental standards?

As part of EGGER’s commitment to the environment, all worktops are PEFC certified and made using renewable material (88%). The 25 mm square edge and 38 mm square edge and postformed worktops can also be recycled following use. The range has undergone rigorous testing, and has been awarded the prestigious FIRA Gold Award.
