Royal Lancaster London

The BCFA’s 2019 Annual Luncheon will take place on the 31st October at the Royal Lancaster London on Hyde Park and we can’t think of a better time to take a closer look at the rebranding and refurbishment of this mid-century architectural icon as well as the BCFA members who supplied the project.

‘Royal Lancaster London is Hyde Park’s commanding mid-century architectural icon born and built in the swinging 60s. Our happy history has seen us hip, handsome and rolling with the times in our unrivalled London location. Today, here in the 21st century we’re proud of the knowledge and expertise we’ve gained over half a century as one of London’s leading hotels.’

Studio Proof has spent the last five years masterminding a complete rebranding and refurbishment of the Royal Lancaster London to create a modern luxury hotel on Hyde Park, London.

For Studio Proof the project encompassed brand identity design, masterplanning, the interior design of 411 bedrooms and suites, public spaces, food & beverage outlets, banqueting and a new entrance façade. The hotel will be reborn as a stunning five star offering, with a completion of all phases in autumn 2018.  Studio proof selected no fewer than 12 BCFA members to supply their project.

The Royal Lancaster London has the ability to cater for meetings of just 2 or banquets and events of more than 1000.  BCFA member Excalibur were pleased to be specified to supply over 2,500 bespoke flex back chairs based on our award winning Clarent collection, we look forward to sitting comfortably at the BCFA Luncheon on Thursday.  Excalibur went on to supply a further 800 chairs to the sister property of Royal Lancaster namely the Landmark Hotel in London.

The 411 bedrooms are beautifully lit by stunning and innovative decorative lighting by  Heathfield & Co.

Working closely with Studio Proof Ltd the BCFA member delivered spectacularly on the brief to design and manufacture original bedroom lighting to exacting standards. Accuracy within the fabrication processes, precise matching of the metal finishes and a sympathetic interpretation of the overall design brief by Heathfield & Co were vital to the success of this exceptional project.

O’Donnell Furniture were selected to manufacture bespoke fitted furniture to all of the beautifully refurbished bedrooms and suites, including wardrobes/minibars, headboards, desks and fitted seating next to desks, console tables, wall panels, mirrors, vanity units and sliding doors to bathrooms.

Guests are invited to Sleep in Luxury thanks to Gailarde’s luxury microfibre zip and link toppers, luxury microfibre fitted quilted mattress protectors and luxury silicon fibre zip and link duvets with microfibre covers.

The Hansgrohe Group was selected to supply all brassware and accessories to create luxury, spa-inspired en-suites. Each bathroom boasts the latest water technology and contemporary basin mixers & showers.

Fitted with hansgrohe’s innovative iBox and Eco Smart technology, all showers meet the latest water regulations whilst considerably minimising the hotel’s overall water consumption. Marrying form with function, the bathrooms also feature iconic brassware including the AXOR Starck Hand Shower and AXOR Citterio Basin Mixer. Combined with hansgrohe’s Croma Select and Raindance, the bathrooms are a symbol of luxury in the heart of the city.

Using its mid-century credentials as a focal point, the new design glows with sophisticated and restrained mid-century design; tipping a hat to Mies Van Der Rohe, T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings, and other luminaries of that era.

The Royal Lancaster London is a perfect example of the high levels of repeat business at Ulster Carpets.  Ulster designed and manufactured bespoke luxury carpets for areas ranging from the Nine Kings Function Room and the Westbourne Suite to the guestrooms, corridors, lift lobbies and reception.

Ulster has long-standing relationships with both the hotel and Studio Proof.  This collaborative approach resulted in luxury carpets that match the hotel’s sophisticated mid-century design with the superior durability and colour retention levels that are essential for the hospitality sector.

“Our patented weaving technology, PSYLO™, ensures we can deliver the design intricacy, luxury finish and unprecedented depth and texture required by a five-star hotel such as the Royal Lancaster.”  Joyce McIvor, Contract Sales Manager UK and Ireland

Supported by substantial owner investment there is a focus on craftsmanship, quality of materials and detailing; all combining to assert the hotel’s place amongst London’s finest.
