Flexibility Meets Comfort: Inside Furniture Fusion’s Dynamic Workspace for FlexWorks

While the return to the office has built momentum over recent years, it seems that many of us have become attached to some form of hybrid working, whether it’s a day dialling in from home or an increasing number finding flexibility in freelance work. The trend is reflected in the growth of flexible and co-working spaces, such as FlexWorks in Hull – the location for Furniture Fusion’s latest workplace project.

Flexworks features a range of spaces to suit everyone from freelancers to small businesses and brings a fresh, flexible co-working environment to the city, with a refurbishment that’s transformed four previously vacant office floors into shared workspace and private offices. With a focus on flexibility, the environment is designed to adapt seamlessly for different needs, whether meetings, workshops, or social events and the new interior design from Maria Hatton ensures that it’s an appealing space where doing business becomes a pleasure.

There’s plenty of space for everyone to get to work in this bright, light setting, along with plenty of desk space. Furniture Fusion supplied their Evolve Plus bench desk and adjustable Portland task chairs to ensure everyone is sitting comfortably and allow users to get down to work without a hitch. And when it’s time for a break, there’s a number of spots where workers can stop for a coffee or bite to eat, or if they’re looking for a different work setting there’s options to meet colleagues or clients in relaxed lounge areas. Furniture Fusion’s Victoria High Back chair includes a smart flip-down table allowing workers to take notes or use their laptops while relaxing into this comfortable chair. Upholstered in tactile faux suede in shades of moss green, mustard, dark brown and soft rose, it has a retro feel which works well alongside the other pieces chosen.

The project doesn’t just showcase Furniture Fusion’s main collection but also their bespoke range – the experienced team are always keen for a chance to create something special, and this project is no exception. The bespoke Lara chair is possibly the standout piece of the space – the curved back and three-legged design of this lounge chair add a quirky, witty note. It’s fully-upholstered in a stone-coloured weave fabric which is made of 100% recycled materials and looks great in the refurbished office. Bold modular sofas sit perfectly alongside this bespoke piece and Furniture Fusion’s Bellini nesting coffee tables – the palette of dusky rose, rich teal and pale neutrals used in this area adds an elegant, welcoming note and the colours work well together.

The team also created bespoke low stools which feature a black powder-coated tubular metal frame and are finished with comfortable cushioned seats upholstered in shades of pink, soft purple and teal. Set alongside the Tall T Surfy High desk finished in black, it’s a great spot to sit with a laptop or for an informal meeting.

The co-working site also boasts a café – a sunny corner with deep yellow walls and geometric tiling details, it features bespoke furniture and pieces from the main Furniture Fusion collections. The Alma dining chair has a vintage, mid-century look which has proved a real hit over recent years and is seen here with a solid beech frame stained to black and a seat upholstered in a bold mustard yellow woven fabric. This popular piece works well in a range of commercial interiors looks great in this workplace alongside Furniture Fusion’s small dining tables topped with solid light oak. Elsewhere, the fi rm’s Roller dining table has been installed in two different sizes – part of a collection of tables and stools which share a playful, distinctive silhouette.

Alongside the lounge chairs and sofas, there’s a large number of workstations which feature the fi rm’s Work Cool side chairs to give plenty of options for spots to sit through the day. This comfortable, ergonomic seat is available with a choice of bases, and was supplied here both on castors and with sleek powder-coated tubular metal legs. FlexWorks space also includes a number of Portland mesh back task chairs – adjustable seating with lumbar support to ensure that however late you work, you’re still sitting comfortably.

This is a really exciting project which should make the lives of entrepreneurs and freelancers alike smoother, more comfortable and more creative – FlexWorks has created a premium, flexible space designed to give startups, sole traders and small businesses somewhere to harness productivity, community, and innovation.
