Product Watch: Vertical Layers by Shaw Contract Group

Shaw Contract Group introduces Vertical Layers, a collection inspired by the beauty of surfaces exposed to the elements of time. The Collection features five new carpet tile styles; Expose, Relief, Uncover, Tinge and Undertone, which bring in design effects such as paint peeling off wooden surfaces, oxidisation, and weathered and worn look.

The design-led collection provides designers and specifiers with a unique proposition – a set of starting points they can utilise, amend, adapt and scale as they see fit for their projects. Designs can be mixed and overlaid, offering flexibility and allowing for continuity within the space.

About the products

The stunning designs are further enhanced by texture, adding an extra dimension to the surface, and provide even greater diversity when combined with patterns.

Expose: medium-scale pattern with natural and organic elements inspired by the peeling of the paint

Relief: small-scale texture with density variations, inspired by worn and scratched surfaces

Uncover: medium-scale patterns with natural and organic elements inspired by the effect of elements and time on a surface

Tinge: medium-scale pattern with organic movement revealing an exposed colour

Undertone: medium-scale pattern in a wash of subtle organic movement inspired by oxidised metal

Using EcoSolution Q, a commercial carpet fibre manufactured with recyclable Type 6 Nylon, Vertical Layers collection offers the largest denier per filament and highest tensile strength in the market, ideal for high traffic areas where performance and durability are crucial.

EcoSolution Q is used in all Shaw Contract Group’s Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Silver carpet products, which can contribute to 5 LEED points through their certification. This is especially important with LEED Version 4 becoming a standard in November; amongst other requirements it demands material transparency – a better understanding of the products being used in a building and where they have come from.
