As part of the BCFA Open Spring Design, we will be showcasing Material Lab’s selection of innovative and inspiring surface products in our ‘Tunnel of Love’. The tunnel will feature these stunning selections along with the Innovation Awards Shortlist designs.

Versa: A tile that elevates grout from its disregarded existence, to that of a focal point. They have grooves that when filled, blur the boundary of each tile and create a wall where the grout no longer breaks up but makes up the pattern.

CHUNK: A strong understanding of what humans want enables Arun to create exciting and immersive materials that have a true connection with the user. Intended for display, the piece is bespoke, made to desired sizes and colours. It captures the aesthetic of something organic, whilst being synthetic through its build, form and colour.

Barbican Tile: Grace Gallagher is a British designer, producing surfaces and objects for interiors that demonstrate a preoccupation with materiality and process. The theme of this work originates from The Barbican, London, where the powerful architecture and patterns observed there have been translated into a range of interior surfaces. This piece is a cast Jesmonite tile from the Barbican collection and celebrates the materially and geometry of this iconic building.

Marbled Silicone Tiles: Hannah Williams is a bespoke material design company, which specialises in marbled silicone products. The Marbled Silicone Tiles are completely handmade and bespoke luxury, with each tile being individual and made up from coloured pigments, which are to client’s wishes.

Freckled Mirror: Offering clients a range of surfaces, handmade at their studio in Nottingham, Kate Gillies Surface Design work with with abrasives, pigments, and process, to create surfaces for exteriors, the home and retail interiors. The Freckled Mirror is made of Jesmonite and crushed glass and is sanded, polished and sealed to a high finish. This surface is suitable for interior and exterior use and is customisable.

Decorative glass and mirrored panels: Ruth Parker Studio produce beautiful decorative glass and mirrored surfaces, combining quality craftsmanship with exciting, innovative designs to create a unique and dramatic aesthetic. Each piece is unique and handcrafted using an original technique; distressing mirrored surfaces and then adding layers of drawings, patterns and textures to create distinctive and intricate surfaces. As each piece has transparent areas, it looks stunning backlit and so can also be used as lighting feature.
