Hotel Le Louis Versailles

Our month-long focus on Paris is drawing to a close and as a final case study we wanted to share a project by Ege Carpets, the Hotel Le Louis Versailles Château MGallery By Sofitel, which blends history with modernity.

The Le Louis hotel is a 4-star luxury hotel near the Palace of Versailles. The Le Louis is part of the Sofitel group, a collection of boutique hotels dedicated to lovers of life, literature and culture. The Grandeur of the exterior makes way for an intimate atmosphere in the 152 luxurious rooms and suites at the charming hotel. Modern and individual, these cosy havens include features in the style of the era, such as the herringbone parquet-inspired flooring.

The designer’s task was to complete the renovation of the prestigious hotel, within a tight budget and time and to give a contemporary sounding to the hotel, located in the historic royal location. This exclusive historic location and nature offered inspiration to designers Sundukovy Sisters Studio to create an interior that would harmoniously accompany the architectural ensemble of Versailles and to combine contemporary elegance with classic refinement.  It should have royal historic roots, and at the same time – be artistic, bright and unique.

To implement the idea the designers used classical textures, giving them a contemporary sounding. They focused on baroque ornaments and elements, made in contemporary materials and added a note of irony, which is typical of their design style.

During the renovation the bar was moved from close-off area to the centre part of the lobby, in an orangery, where it attracts the attention of all the guests. One of highlights in the lobby is the chic bar’s stunning chandelier imitating the form of the roof of the classic palace. Reception desks with cone-like elements repeat the shape of the cone-cut trees in The Gardens of Versailles. Walls’ painting was done in the style resembling aged concrete, which is a very modern material that blends perfectly with antique gold and dark green, the colour of the Versailles parks. Another creative solution is a carpet whose design is a paraphrase of the iconic landscape.

Supplier Focus

BCFA member, Ege Carpets, were selected to supply for the hotel renovation. In line of the theme of the Gardens of Versailles, a custom designed carpet with rich emerald-green colour combined and a concrete inspired texture created an elegant and luxurious setting in the hotel’s reception and lounge areas. The royal ambience of the carpet design reflects the famous lawn pattern of the gardens and compliments the rest of the interiors perfectly.

The look of aged concrete was transferred to the walls too and blended in beautifully with the décor in antique gold and dark green, the colours of the Versailles parks. A bespoke ceiling painting featured a design from one of the Versailles Palace rooms, perfectly in line with other decorative elements in a concrete like texture.
