Lift Up by Balsan: Redefining Sustainable Workplace Flooring

As the workplace continues to evolve, so too do the expectations placed on interior finishes. Today’s designers are challenged to create spaces that not only inspire collaboration and wellbeing but also meet increasingly ambitious sustainability targets without compromising on performance or aesthetics.

With the launch of Lift Up, Balsan introduces a carpet tile collection that responds directly to these changing demands, offering a new generation of workplace flooring that combines contemporary design, circular thinking, and industry-leading environmental credentials.

Established in 1751, Balsan has evolved from a traditional French wool spinning mill into one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of premium flooring solutions.

At the heart of Lift Up is BioBack, Balsan’s innovative low-carbon backing system. Making its debut within the collection, BioBack represents a significant step forward in sustainable flooring technology, delivering an exceptionally low carbon footprint of just 0.3kg COe/m² for the backing itself. Composed of 88% biogenic carbon derived from wood, combined with a layer of 100% recycled polyester, BioBack contains no bitumen, PVC, or polyolefins and is fully recoverable at end of life through Balsan’s ReUse programme, supporting a genuinely circular approach to commercial flooring.

The collection itself has been developed specifically for today’s agile workplace. Inspired by the relationship between urban architecture and nature, Lift Up features a subtle, organic pattern that introduces movement and texture without overwhelming a space. Its palette of twelve contemporary colourways, including soft greys, warm taupes, calming greens, and earthy terracotta tones, allows designers to create welcoming environments that promote wellbeing while complementing a wide variety of workplace aesthetics.

Flexibility is central to the design. Lift Up’s “Up to You” installation concept encourages random tile placement, creating dynamic, non-directional layouts that simplify installation while offering a unique visual identity for every project. Combined with the B-Connect® glue-free installation system, the collection supports faster installation, easier maintenance, and future adaptability, which is an increasingly important consideration as workplaces continue to evolve.

Performance remains equally impressive. Manufactured from 100% regenerated solution-dyed ECONYL® nylon, Lift Up delivers the durability expected in high-traffic commercial environments while offering excellent dimensional stability, 25dB impact sound reduction, antistatic properties, and outstanding ease of maintenance.

As organisations continue to prioritise environmental responsibility alongside employee wellbeing, flooring has become far more than a functional specification. It plays an integral role in creating spaces that are adaptable, comfortable, and future-ready.

With Lift Up, Balsan demonstrates that sustainable innovation no longer requires compromise. Instead, it delivers a flooring solution that balances beautiful design, technical performance, and measurable environmental benefits and raises the benchmark for the next generation of commercial interiors.
