Hill Cross Furniture – Funicular | Georgia

A Little New Year Inspiration…

The renovation of former historical Funicular restaurant building – overlooking Tbilisi from the Mtatsminda hilltop Georgia – has been completed, hosting its prestigious opening late 2013. Working alongside designLSM, interior and architectural designers, the new complex, owned by GMT Group, is the city’s most stylish centre for food and drink. Hill Cross Furniture proudly furnished the stunning complex, across an outstanding five restaurants & bars.

Café and confectionery Pur-Guliani – offering confectionary– hosts the first floor of the renovated building. Abundant with colour and light, bespoke metal edged tables and industrial bar stools have been used. The low and bold red light shades cover the ceiling.

To the right side of the first floor, the stunning Georgian meat restaurant Chela is a casual eatery. Bespoke banquette seating in a bold bolt blue with button back dominate the space, matched with character oak table top and lined with metal edging and legs. The space is finished with metal benches and black-finished wood, upholstered in matching blue leather. Another shot of colour is injected into the back of the restaurant, a intense orange deep buttoned banquette lines the walls.

The second floor, the Funicular Lounge & Bar, features a jaw dropping restored mural, a historic fresco created by painter Koka Ignatov in the early 1960’s, complemented by a large brass bar and bespoke industrial furniture. Modular seating with high angular back creates an central space, teamed with mirrored metal tables and the stunning lady lounge chair.

Next door, the spectacular Funicular Restaurant, is the main attraction. A huge space, with large banqueting tables seat large groups. Dark royal green leather high back deep button chairs are used predominately throughout. Stunning deep button booth seating shape the space and follow into the separate private dining space.

The outdoor spaces throughout the floors are magnificent. The balconies are furnished with loose table and chairs, and modular seating in a water resistant fabric in a gun metal grey. The final floor features an idyllic Function Suite overlooking the stunning Georgian cityscape.
